Maybe they did it to make the other models look reasonably priced?

Marketing guys actually think stuff like that.

Was there any talk of an impact on things at Audeze when Rosson left?

With Audeze and these wack prices what do you guys think Sennheiser is up to? I know they have been playing in the mud a little bit with their lower end lines but when do you think we are going to see some new sennheiser audiophile phones (ie 6x0 replacement possible new flagship)?

As an HEK owner, mine's been rock solid. No loose cable jacks, headband is solid / intact, fit/finish is pretty good. I do think they've had some QC issues, but those sorts of things tend to get addressed early. Do I think the retail price is appropriate? No, not really. I like the phones well enough to keep them, but would have preferred to see them around the 2K mark.

Maybe planar driver technology is a dead end for Audeze. They are searching for a niche market.
I mean.. if you put out a '' 10k $ '' headphone, how many people are there to criticize the shortcomings it has.

I bet there will be enough buyers worldwide. There will be some reviewers..

I personally can never justify buying a 600-900€ smartphone, but they sell like schit!

Orpheus 2 and they retuned the HD 650 a tiny bit last year. I think Sennheiser is content to print money right now and try to break into the low end closed fashion headphone market. The Momentum had problems and Beats idiots won't wear utilitarian gear like HD 25s or 280s even though 280s have skull punching grit your teeth subbass.

They need to do serious R&D on the HD 800 housing to try to make an HD 850. I think the HD 580/600/650 series is almost maxed out for drivers and housing. If they could mass produce an HD 625 with a truly linear treble, they would.

The sewage drain is strong with Audeze.

I think Sankar has a tendency to buy other companies headphones and take them apart for research/fun. I don't understand why the "nano-scale" is suddenly such a big deal.

    Headband looks neat though.

That would be funny if the LCD-4 sounded like the famous uber LCD-3 that I had that lasted 24 hours.

At an 8k budget (LCD4+amp) any audiophile knows a TT+speakers setup can easily wipe 99.99% if not all headphone setup off the map. At this price point Audeze is more likely pulling off a new toy for wolves of Wall Street than a serious audio product.

The direction in which the headphone industry is heading is quite unhealthy. To make things worse, there are always more than enough people who are willing to jump onto the hype/FOTM train and believe in more expensive=better theory. As long as enough people are buying these overpriced crap, the trend won't end any time soon.
