    Many lessons learned:

Entire dampening scheme of the driver? Bunch of silly poop! Ignore it all. I am working on narrowing down exactly what is doing th good stuff now.

Cotton eats the icky bass, but leaves the sub bass. Turns out doing stuff to the back of the driver has more to do with sub bass, while doing stuff in the actual cup has more to do with mid bass. Very intriguing.

Interesting results!, did you have to resort to lots of front dampening for that one?

Nope, not really. You can actually lose some of the high end with REAR dampening too. Not sure why that works, but it does. For this, I simply got a highly absorbent wound compress, cut the cotton paper surround off, and took out the soft but compact cotton core. Just a flat sheet. Then I found the middle of it, and pulled it off so I now had two sheets of half the thickness. It's pretty thin. Then I just put that under the pads, one half under each. It had a very nice and linear/deep dampening effect, so rather than just dampening the high end alone so it sounds muffled, this has a broader range, so even though you only have a little of it, it'll dampen down into the high midrange. This means the transition into the treble is smooth and natural, rather than being too steep relative to the high mids.

That looks pretty good, so you didn't cover any baffle vents at all?

This is my fostex mk3 project, wooden cups made of monkey pod a leather headband and rotating between a few pads ( on the picture it's Lawton pads ) but I think I prefer alpha pads with other modifications.

More pictures of the process can be seen here https://hoved-fi.dk/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4998 the text is in Danish tough :)

In my modding experience, I found that adding adhesive foam covered with surgical tape to the cup gave me slightly better bass and treble extension.

Sorry for reviving this long, long, long, long, long dead thread but did you remove the adhesive on the back of the soft felt over the driver? Thank you.
