Posted over in the HD800 SuperBAF thread, decided to put it over here to not clutter up that thread.

Edit: I'm noticing piano in more of my songs, even songs where I didn't realize there was really a piano in them before. Not sure if it's just confirmation bias, or something along the lines of the Baader-Meinhof phenomena, but this is pretty neato so far. Fine details (smacking of lips, reverb of strings, etc) are preserved. Soundstage is mostly the same, but does feel a little bit smaller.

For $20 worth of carpet liner (and man, do I have a lot of spare carpet liner now)... The results are pretty addictive. I don't have any headphones to do a direct comparison to, but it's straightforward enough to do that I'd really enjoy reading other people's impressions.

Have you tried adding dampening material directly over the driver such as TP to mellow the highs? I just can't imagine that damping around the driver would have much of a noticeable effect based on my T50rp modding experience unless there are some outrageous resonances with the inside of the cup.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was just expectation bias seeping through, but I will try some dampening material after a week or so (to get used to the 'new' sound signature).

I looked at Takato's mods, but it seemed we were doing different enough things that I wanted to go off on a separate thread to keep them easily identifiable incase my messing around actually starts going somewhere. But yeah, I'll definitely consider doing his driver covering mod and see if it helps with the treble spike more. Not gonna mess with the pads though, since they're damn near impossible to purchase in Canada.
