As hoped, Jodie and HD 650 is a lovely match. Better synergy than with M3.

@Pyruvate I did! Got too curious not to check it out. I've always wanted a system like the Jodie for transportable use.

@zonto Heh, the 600 isn't going anywhere. ;) Still enjoy it with the Sonett. Different but equally enjoyable sound. I value variety highly, as it keeps upgraditis at bay.

Also, Jodie is the best amp that I've used with the UM Martian. Spectacular performance with IEMs of nearly all types seems probable, excepting those with unusual impedance characteristics like the Andromeda.

@Pyruvate My usual setup, Bifrost Multibit/Sonett. It's just lot better than what I had the last time I tried out the 650. The Senns needs desktop gear, all there is to it.

@zonto Bite thy hateful tongue! ;P Actually, I think owning both is a great way to go. They're highly complimentary, despite/because of their similarity. But the 650 is currently getting more head time. Better technicalities and more forgiving of "hot" recordings.

        Wow, 6" is short!

I'll probably try a used Cardas Clear at some point. Don't really use the computer for audio anymore.

Yeah, but it's just for tethering the Mojo to the MBP. I'd buy a cheaper cable for a longer run. Gets too expensive otherwise!

Cardas Clear's supposedly quite good. Also not terribly pricey. Prefer a SPDIF transport?

Yeah. My headphone rig is in the living room with a video 2.0 speaker rig, so my main source for both rigs is an Oppo 103 with an upgrade board with its own S/PDIF output that I run into the Yggdrasil.

Mac Mini also in the TV stand hooked up through USB, but never use it.

The HD 650 definitely layers better than 600. Not a lot better, but it's an improvement. Dimensionality is about the same, although the 650 has marginally greater depth on account of its layering prowess.

My biggest qualms between the two after a few months are that I wish that the HD650 had the HD600's treble frequency response and I don't like the HD600 midrange peak. Can't decide whether I dislike that or the HD800 SDR 6khz peak more.

It's nice, isn't it? Although I prefer the Sonett with my Senn, I'm gonna give the M3 a whirl today to see if the changes that I detected in the Bifrost Multibit hold up to the same degree.

Could detect the improved bass with the M3, same as the Sonett. But, damn, the HD 600 just does not mate nicely with that amp. Prefers more voltage drive, maybe? Though I suspect the 650 FR might be a little more adaptable to solid-state gear. Find out by the end of the week, hopefully.

      1. Huxleigh
        Huxleigh
It's always such a jarring transition to go from a good tube amp to a solid state option with Senns. The synergy is seldom there. This M3 is miles better than the last one I heard... but it doesn't strike me as an ideal pairing with my HD 600. Still, it's hardly an unpleasant listen.

The SWA M3 is probably the most quintessentially solid state amp I've ever heard. And I mean that as a compliment. It's notably more refined in the upper registers than I remember the GS-1 being. Just insane bass control, perhaps even too much at times. Midrange as flat as Kansas. Thoroughly excellent, overall.
