and I wanted some second thoughts. It's probably a matter of synergy, but they sound very different to me and I was wondering if I'm crazy or doing something wrong or if that's the consensus.

Right now it's a bit like foobar vs JRiver to me and I'm in the JRiver camp fwiw.

Did you root it? There's an easy config file hack for 44.1k rather than resampling everything to 48k. Seems a good idea if you use with an OTG cable.

Neuron has a great EQ and software upsampling, BubbleUPnP for controlling DLNA players.

I guess I can try UAPP, and see if I can tell any difference.

Both apps do output the right sample rates - from 44.1 to 384kHz. I haven't tried DSD and probably never will. In general the output should be bit-perfect and I don't want to use any EQ.

idk Neutron - but for UAPP, in Settings/USB audio, if Upsample is off and Bit perfect mode is on, you *should* be getting bit-perfect data to the DAC.

I forgot to mention, but I am using the digital volume control in this case. I can try later without. But even a bit perfect output does not guarantee identical sound. ASIO, WASAPI and Kernel Streaming should sound the same and to my ears they don't. Buffer size also shouldn't make a difference. Heck, even foobar vs JRiver shouldn't make a difference, but it does to my ears.

Basically what I was wondering is that a quick google search seems to suggest that UAPP supposedly sounds better than Neutron, but to my ears UAPP just sounds a lot more sibilant and flat, kind of like foobar, but even worse. Neutron with the right settings sounds similar to the best USB ports on my PC with JRiver MC.

Hmm, think I need to try Neutron...

@Serious it sounds like you need to clean up your USB

Did you try UAPP? How did you feel about it?
This is just for getting the best sound on a portable rig. I normally use a Wyrd and some day I will ditch USB completely, but this is for a GO.

DeadBeef... but my mobile listening is very much more convenience than critical, and I only really bother with the external DAC stuff for experimenting.
