Also consider 600. Stock 6xx/650 might be less synergistic than 600 or 800 (not bad by any means though) -- mods can help. Also it works great for all focal opens.

HD600 is the sweet spot. If you can stop there.

That kinda feels right. $1400 all in for a killer HP rig. I'm sure DSHA3F/Clear is fantastic, but it's also triple the price. Happy to be in the cheap seats for now and save the rest for 2 channel later this year when we get our new place.

By all I've heard about it is a little soft and doesn't have the greatest bass control, so warm cans like stock 650 or bassy stuff is too warm or unfulfilling.

    Used Auteur?

Probably best to save your money, might be Borealis is more your speed.

I use modded HD650's (KISS Mod) with my BW2 and have been extremely happy with the combination. With that said, I can see stock HD6XX/650's as being too warm. Enjoy your new toys! :)

Thanks folks. I find HD6XX a little warm even with DAC1541 so HD600 it will be. I have a friend who can really use a pair of HD6XX and will appreciate them.
