El Paso Electric serves us up here just inside NM. I think it was 2011 when we had several nights/days in the teens. Their gas fired generators could handle it, but their monitoring instrumentation was not rated for the cold so they shut down but bought electricity from a nuclear power plant in AZ
So we had rolling black outs, lasting 3-4 hours for several days. They promised to get properly rated equipment and apparently they did because no outages this time around...
Just messaged my friend in Dallas, he is doing the same. No power since Sunday. Reminds me of returning from DC to DFW on Jan 1, 1985, ice storm could not get home and got one of the last rooms at the airport Hilton, at least we had power.
