    Hello Folks,

Some of the Beyerdynamic headphones have known peaks in the treble.

I really like the direction of some newer Beyerdynamic headphones such as the Amiron home. And the Drop x Beyer DT 177X GO. These have been smoothed out a bit for enjoyable listening (versus a professional use emphasis).

The DT 1990 PRO open backs are one of the most popular current models. They can still be a little "exciting" up top.

Solderdude has made a filter for them. :p

In case you have any Beyers that could use a little "mellowing" up top, Solderdude has offered to lend SBAF an inline cable filter.

We can send one around if there is interest.

Who has some of the following Beyers? It can be used with all 250 Ohm Beyers:
    DT1990 (with both pads)
    DT1770 (with DT770 pads)
    DT990-250
    DT880-250
    DT770-250
(NOT suited for any other headphones nor the 600 Ohm, 80 Ohm, nor 32 Ohm versions of the Beyers.)

The inline dongle is fitted with a 3.5mm TRS jack and socket so you may need to have some adapters. I can include a couple of adapters if needed.

Please reply to this thread and let's see how many would like to try a hardware filter!

    Cheers,
    C

Thanks for the likes...I wondered how many people here were holding Beyers.

Maybe more people here have Senns, ZMF, and HIFIMAN. Any interest in cable filters for those?

I asked him, long ago, if he would do something for the HPs i used but at the time wasnt part of the plans. Only now realized that he actually does for them now.

I am interested In the HD800sdr.

Still have one of his modded Fostex and one of his DAC/AMP on my PlayStation. I like his modding work.

    I would give it a whirl. I have a DT880 pro 250 Ohm.

Cool @Walderstorn and @cskippy ...I'll see about getting the Beyer filter and inquire on the HD800SDR.

I do figure the HD800SDR version would see more interest here. :p

I also have a DT880 Pro 250 Ohm and would like to hear this. They don't get a lot of use anymore because of their sharpness.

I was planning to say that I might be tentatively interested, but logistics of shipping to my place and the fact that the Beyers (DT880/250) belong to a friend now mean I'm kinda skunked unless he's planning to build a filter for what other headphones I have right now. Ended up not posting :p

Could convince friend to pick up the filter at cost and report back with impressions because I'm curious how this'd work v a PEQ.

That would get 3-4 impressions of it.

Okay- I think we're less afraid of issues from cables...I can ship the filter adapters. If there is any concern, can let them sit for a week or two before you open them. Or use a disinfectant wipe.

I have Beyer and HIFIMAN filter adapters to send out (good for multiple models each):

    Just saw this post.

Do you have a filter for the Arya? It's almost perfect, if not for a peak in the treble that is always on the verge of being distracting.

I have only two of the filters for loaners here, feel free to contact Solderdude if you are interested in any of the other filters.

I have one for Ananda and it works quite well! It's subtle but it does the job. You can try simulate the effect in software first, since you could potentially ask to make it stronger/weaker before buying one from solderdude. btw he barely earns money from making these it's essentially charity work :p good solderdude

Interested how the filter fix the Grado 60/80/125, even the AudioQuest nighthawk. Anyone ever try the filters or built one? Could we get solderdude on the site to ask questions? I'm sure a lot of folks would pay decent monies for these cables and allow him to make some sort of profit.

I bought a Hifiman 400i attenuater from ebay recently - one made by solderdude - it's an 8db cut at 8Khz. -not sure how wide the cut is. regardless, it works a treat. I thought 8db would be too much but it essentially cures most of the 400i/4XX's problems.

It'd be real interesting to see comparative headphone measurements between some of solderdudes filters and stock.

    LOANER TOUR: TWO Filters https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/headphones/passive-filters/

    1. HIFIMAN filter = 8kHz -7dB
    Xv2
    XX
    400S
    Ananda

    2. Beyerdynamic filter = 7kHz -6dB
    DT770-250
    DT880-250
    DT990-250
    DT1770 (with DT770 pads)
    DT1990 (with both pads)

NOTE: They are fitted with 3.5mm TRS jack and sockets, you need to have adapters when applicable.
COST: OK to buy during tour if you want to keep it. We have 2 Beyer filters.
Depending on connectors + filter material raw cost = 15-20 euros + shipping (or no shipping if you are on loaner tour).
Solderdude is NOT doing this to make money but as a contribution to the community and that’s why I’m helping.

INTEREST LIST: Need to check in because this is 5 months old due to pandemic!
@cskippy : do you still have your Beyer and want to try DT 880 250 ohm filter?
@ergopower : Would you still like to try DT 880 250ohm filter?
@Lyander : Would you and your friend still like to try a Beyer DT 880 filter? (PM me, we have a second one.)
    @Clemmaster : Checking on Q factor. The Arya filter = 10kHz -5dB. The Ananda/HE400s = 8kHz -7dB.
-7dB at 8kHz might bring down the 10kHz by a few dB depending on Q.
You're the only one surprisingly that is interested in the HIFIMAN filter even with lots of HIFIMAN planars on SBAF.
So you can lemme know if you'd like to give it a go after I find out what Q is.

Okay! Let's get this rolling! Oh, I need to check my PMs again too in case I am missing someone...
