Focal Elear and Utopia

From my experience with cables, it is not silver that causes the impression of brightness,
The silver dragon and my ELA Adio silver cable did not add this effect.
The pure silver seemed the best balanced to me.
But the Silver PLATED was a problem and I am opinion from that experience plus further Reading other users that in the specific usage of headphone cable which requires substantial length (not short runs inside equipment),
That silver plated causes these Type of "bright" opinions.

I am quite certain there will be substantial difference whether improvement or not for the Utopia because it is very transparent and has actually been able to convey a slight edge over the 800 in realism...

 

Hope he was wearing them the right way when he was listening to them.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Utopias. I'll be picking them up from The Source on Thursday, with impressions to come. I almost had a panic attack after I bought them, but I'm sure that will go away with some listening. Audeze had a special on LCD-4s, but I decided to go in the other direction. Merry Christmas to me ...

 

you're not alone with the feeling of panic, of "oh f**k what have i done... do i have to start working corners or eating ramon now." i know a few of us had the same feeling. but it went away after listening for a while and then selling off other extraneous gear anyway, let us know how it goes, and merry christmas to you amigo

 

Luckily, I don't have to work the corners! I just put it on my card, and I'll be paying it off for a few months. Luckily, I've heard them before in a few different situations, so I already know I dig 'em.

 

Very good choice on Utopia over LCD-4. IMHO.

 

It was very close, I just didn't want another headphone with a major upper mid range dip. It was time for a different flavor. It seems like more and more headphones these days are missing something in the presence region, whereas the utopia is pretty even across the entire spectrum

 

Hey guys, haven't really been doing much lookin' but does anyone know where I can get a 4pin xlr balanced cable for the Utopia that isn't like $400?

 

I haven't seen one yet. All i've seen is the overpriced, wrapped in plastic Nordost cables. They sound fine, but jeez they're expensive for what you get.

 

Trevor at Norne Audio makes some wonderful cable at sane prices. I've been buying from him for years. Shoot him an email and ask for a quote.

Well if you've got diy fingers you can make one your own. I made mine using DHC cables and very pleased with the results.

Great, thank you. I've just ordered 2 from Amazon UK for £15.82 each to modify my existing Norne Draug v2 balanced cable.

 

Derailing as usual but the search function ISN'T that great. I usually find what I'm looking for by googling "whatever the f**k I want to read about site:superbestaudiofriends.org" and it usually yields much better results.
