My FiiO E10K died a few days ago, and after a short period of mourning I realized I need to get a new DAC as soon as possible, since my Staxmas Staxbox of Stax is already in the customs office in this very city.
So with some external help, I ordered a Modi Multibit a few moments ago, since they are apparently amazing. I'm kinda curious to see how floored I'll be in comparison, haha.

-60dB is essentially all the way down on Saga's resistor ladder volume control, for example--almost inaudible.

In the overall scheme of things, most DACs sound close to each other than they do not. But the Modi Multibit is pretty darn good...

Like when I say the Modi MB is Schiit's third best DAC and easily competes with audiophile DACs up to $2000 or more, especially when fed SPDIF. It should be put into a Dr. Who prop looking chassis and sold for $10,000. Would probably sound better this way too.

Actually have a Modi MB feeding a Jotunheim driving a LCD-4, great sound throw this rig. I´m thinking to upgrade to Gungnir MB... Will be a good upstep?

If schiit one-offed a TARDAC I would give it a listen...

Yes. Gungnir Multibit offers more clarity, resolution, more slam and bass articulation. Less congested. Big jump from USB. Not as big from SPDIF since Modi Multibit USB is weaker than Gen 2.

Can you elaborate please? Why there is such a difference between SPDIF and USB?

All the answers you could want, and more, along with ways to improve USB sound (if you're forced to use it), can be found in the "USB Nervosa ..." thread.

Can't look at the USB Nervosa thread is you have a Modi Multibit as it costs less than $1000, so that violates rule #2 of the thread. Damn. I so much wanted to read that thread. Can we get special dispensation to read the USB Nervosa thread if we have a Modi Multibit?

Oh ok, I thought there were another raison because of what Allan Marcus has pointed out. But if it performs way above its retail price, I guess it makes sense.

Yeah, good 'ole Dremel, my Dad had a lot of good tips to choose from, and good variety of metal files, came out ok I think:

Experimenting w/i2s SB Touch as a source. With jumpers in, back to normal USB functionality.

Just FYI, happy the case isn't butchered too badly :D and felt the urge to post

In your opinion, is the GOV2's Balanced output about as good as the Modi Multibit?

Given that I already have a GOV2 (and could get some TRRS to XLR cables), would there be much of a point in buying the Modi Multibit if I was gonna use an amp with balanced input?

The TRRS->XLR cable would be less than buying a Modi Multibit, so why not try that first and see how it sounds?

Right now I'm running my GOV2 into a Vali 2, but I'll do that once I actually pick up a Joty. Thanks though, the input's appreciated!

Personally I don't think it's worth getting a Modi Multibit if you can already run a GOV2 balanced into a Jotunheim. To my ears the two sounded very close, with mostly presentation and voicing differences. At the time I got the Modi Multibit I said that I should either keep it or the GO2a I had, and didn't because I loved how both sounded. Now that the Modi Multibit is in my speaker rig, I'm glad I kept the GO as it sits on my desktop.

I'll probably (eventually) end up getting a Gungnir Multibit, so it's good to know that the GOV2 will last me long into the future as a much more portable solution.

If you're looking to get a Gungnir Multibit later, then definitely keep what you have and don't worry about a Modi Multibit.
