Sony NW-ZX100HN discounted too 400 pounds on amazon.co.uk. Would this be a good solid improvement over the A10 series?

EDIT: Probably better to wait and see how the A35 compares instead. Seems to be a bit more powerfull than the ZX100/A17 and wll probably be a better value.

The 300R sounded terribly like digital hell - strident, metallic, etc. Haven't heard the 100R though.

I saw XDP-100R is on sale at the moment and it is quite tempting and just saw this post... Was XDP-100R's resampling issue quite noticeable? It seems like DFR is better choice after all since DFR support MQA same as XDP-100R. Thank you for sharing.. :)

If I understand correctly, 300R is bigger brother and supposed to be better. Sounds like it is not worth trying. Thank you very much for sharing @Grahad2

I felt there was something unnatural with the sound on the xdp.100r, but that very well could have been influenced by my staring at the sample rate data on the stock player. I would listen to the same track on the dfr and hear a more natural sound. I don't have experience, but the difference sounded like a timing problem. The pioneer sounded as if everything was disconnected arriving at slightly different times. It didn't gel. The dfr presented a more cohesive sound, but didn't lack the nuance to discern layers. Hope this helps.

I actually stumbled on a good deal for cayin n5. Dual slots, decent ui, usb dac, digital out, little over 200 bux. I like the warmth of the ak4490eq.

I also though that the 100R sounded metallic too when I listened to it last year. I liked its sibling, the Onkyo DP-X1, much more.

Anyone heard the DX200 yet (besides @Mimouille)? Mine came last week. Still burning that bitch in. So far, it's pretty good. Not many issues with the UI. Sound is really good. Very airy, excellent separation. EQ blows unfortunately, I keep it off. Good power. I'm over 100 hours of burn in...Probably close to 150 now.

I'm wondering about the third gen X5... if battery life is decent, I think I might try it. Had both previous gens...

The other one I'd love to try is the WM1A. Hopefully soon.

1z? Hard to say right now. It's on loaner. When I get it back, I'll compare them. I don't know the 1z well enough to go from memory yet. I know I enjoy both while listening to them...but switching back to my Cowon S, after about a week without it felt very good. When I switched back to the S after a week or so with the 1z, I definitely missed the Z. This time it was more of a wow I missed my Cowon feeling. Not sure if that means anything though.

I'm definitely ordering the X5iii when it's released on Amazon. I think it will be a winner.

Knew the 1Z was on loan, for some reason I thought you might have borrowed a 1A as well. I could send you my 1A for a while when I return your IEMs if you'd like. All burned in on SE and balanced already! Cheers

For sure bro!! Thanks, I've been wanting to hear it. I debated buying one as well... This will make that choice easy. No rush on returning my IEMS either bro. Next week I'm going back to my original home, my dad is having surgery. I won't be back to my Florida home until next Monday.

Based off comments from a trusted friend, the tone is definitely different (the WMs more warm and analogue-y), can see why you'd have a preference.

I still will probably pick up a used zx2 at some point, but for those of us who don't want to spend a lot of money on a dap I wanted to mention the Shanling M1. Why? I ordered it on a whim because of the relatively cheap price, small form factor and bluetooth capability(I am fat and didn't used to be, want to get back into running). My intention is to use it with bluetooth IEMs or my Riva S while working out.

Don't want to make a review just yet, just observations. Compared to my AK100ii its build quality is not the same, there is slight hiss with the Andromeda, and it is slight, and it is not as clean; however, I much prefer the tonality and treble response on the M1 so far. It has paired with both my Jaybirds and bluetooth speakers without a hitch as well. Most surprisingly, the UI is much more intuitive than I thought it would be…it's no iPod but then it is no Hifiman either..shockingly I would say closer to the iPod.

Still trying to find the right cable to connect it with my iDSD so have not tested the digital out feature at all yet. I have used it for about an hour a day for a week and have not had to charge it yet. Unfortunately, my unit arrived with a hairline crack on the top of the unit…thought about returning it but decided I can live with it.

Only posting this because I expected it to be worse than what it is.

Pairs well with the Mojo, but not all USB type C to micro USB work for some reason.

The cable has to be "ordinary", not OTG. OTG cable, such as one that had been initially provided with the early M1 revisions, is meant for "Phone/Tablet with microUSB as a transport → M1 as a DAC" use case.
