Do we have any reason to trust Cleer with a higher end open back? Looking at their website their other headphones are all fashion/bluetooth/ANC oriented, they've never done an open, and their one kinda expensive closed back has the words "DJ" in it.

Anyone have any experience with Cleer? The new opens look cool tho

That's part of why I found it interesting. This is their first open back (and audiophile) headphone as far as I can tell. The housing looks like quite a bit of thought went into it. Or maybe they just decided to throw a driver with a random diaphragm material into a housing they designed by looking at stock photos of flagships.

Either way, always good to see new companies putting out their take on high end headphones.

Left original post in place to warn of the dangers of better living through chemicals combined with old age. Feel free to delete if the cautionary effect is thought to be outweighed by...whatever.

man, this thing is SO CLOSE to being one of the coolest looking headphones I've ever seen, but then there are just a few design decisions they made that somehow managed to turn it into one of the ugliest for me. The "cleer" branding is definitely one such decision

Hinge design looks great though, and the fact they stuck the cables up closer to the axis of the cups is cool, because those cables look heavy as f**k

LEMO connectors just like the HD800 too and the grille behind the driver looks like it came straight from an Ether.

Will be interesting to see how it performs and if Tyll can get his hands on a pair

Hmm. They are targeting to compete with HD800at $699.. Good price but not sure if they will be able to actually compete with HD800.. That is steep goal from not very known company, I guess.

please don't tell me that they're bringing the 6k ringing, arguably overall thin-brightish sound too to compete with the hd800...

Not sure how that's arguable. Plenty of plots showing HD800 isnt thin.

But I do anticipate some form of enclosure ringing. All metal and pleather pads? HD700v2 anyone?

The inside of the pads looked to be a woven cloth material from the pictures I've seen, so maybe one less thing to worry about?

    including the drivers, apparently

I know fostex has some titanium coated drivers, but I haven't heard of magnesium drivers yet on a fullsize. I might just be outta the loop tho

don't most of the generic neodymium drivers use a full metal cylindrical enclosure with a plastic outer ring on the connector side? Or is the enclosure actually made of plastic?
