Looked around my "lab" and saw these critters still loiter around. Would love to keep them but they're just taking up space needlessly, and I'm now out and about for at least 8 hours a day so I can't take care of them either. Hopefully they'll find good homes.

    1) Denon D5000: being replaced by Fostex EMU Purple Heart for me. Measured by ultra a while back. Not much has changed other than that I tried to address the channel imbalance mechanically (so no funny resistor/attennuator business). $200 + shipping. Will come with extra pair of pads. Headband is a bit worn, but cups look good.

    2) Oppo PM-3: modded, did crazy things to them, will come with extra pads. $250 + shipping. SOLD!

    3) Fostex HP-V1: portable hybrid solid state - tube amp. Has 6.3mm headphone output instead of 3.5mm. $200 + shipping. GONE!

Dropping all prices to something more reasonable in case the old pricing deterred anyone. Hahaha

What sort of "crazy things" did you do to the PM-3?

Mm... ripped the front damping "foam" thing out because it deadened the sound too much. Selectively rearranged the rear damping fiberglass and added some other stuffs, also to avoid deadening the sound.

Then changed front damping scheme, removed the stock weird circular thing because it was creating too much upper mid resonance/reflection/hollowness, and finally swapped the pads for something more comfy (pad swap happened after CT got them back to me :) ). Stock pads got stiff after a while, were too small, and kinda squished the headphone against my ears, so along with the front foam, it was quite uncomfortable. I think I have made it... mildly better.

Also some amount of dynamat was introduced to control bass because what happened was that I ended up making the upper mid a bit more relaxed while trying to push the treble peak higher up. The PM-3s now sound to my ears a bit more V-shaped than stock, but with a bit less bass bloat.

I just know that EMU Purple Heart is "it" for me. Cheap, disposable, looks good, and sounds great, so that's why both the Denon and Oppo are going. :)

Ah cool, so you didn't shove heavy copper tubes into this one :p

I'd offer to trade you something, but I don't think I have anything you'd want.

If you could make this more closed, so the guy sitting next to me at work didn't hear them, I'd be interested to see what you could do.

You should sell the D5000 over on Head-Fi... people are still looking for them and pay more $ than they are worth.

The HP-V1 is awesome. Why would you let it go? Someone should grab this asap.
