Yes! I was eyeing that drop, but had no idea if the little M1 would feed usb audio specifically to the gov2+ (admittedly I wasn't looking all that hard...) Still, this is awesome, thanks for posting this.

@Decomo, can you comment on volume range when using the M1 straight into Andro? I would use it primarily as a usb transport, but standalone seems appealing in a pinch.

    @aufmerksam

Hello. The volume range is 0 to 100. And I listen at 40 with Andro. More than that, it starts hurt my ears and I normally listen 80~82 db sound pressure level. :)

Edit: It was on Low Gain mode.. If it is changed to High gain, then I can go upto 30 out of 100.

    New dap announced.

hopefully the UI wont be that ancient to use.
Hmmm, i like their portable amp (shozy magic) but that was a few years ago, anyone heard their older-screenless alien dap from them before?

So I've got a battery pack with a battery percent indicator and it shows that the AK Jr. draws charge much slower than my Iphone SE, which isn't quick charge. Weird.

So on the heels of the Shanling M1 drop, now MD is pushing the Cayin N3. Has anyone reputable reviewed this?

(I've seen the Head-Fi circle jerk thread, but no real info there)

Interestingly the N3 looks quite a bit like the Shozy Alien+.

Had it home for some time, super easy UI(like no cover art and only works with folder browsing), that's at least super quick in both start up and browsing. Sound is quite fitting standard Sabre descryption, strong in techncialities, but to me kind of fake and fatiguing.

Is there any rule of thumb for DAP volume and battery life? If I use efficient BAs instead DD IEMs and therefore can listen at 10% lower volume, will I get 10% longer battery life? 5%? Is it linear?

In most cases, unless it's some nice discrete class-A output stage, the power required to actually drive the headphones/IEMs is going to be the smallest consumer of power on the entire DAP. You may actually be worse off with low impedance IEMs than with some higher-impedance full-size cans due to the higher current that will flow across a lower resistance (Chord's Mojo exhibits this trait noticeably, though that's partly due to it's own extremely low OI).

And then power-functions are logarithmic rather than linear when it comes to SPL; e.g. a nominal 200 watt amp will only play 6 dB louder than a similar 100 watt unit into the same transducer.

This is a long-winded way of saying that, in general, while yes you might get longer battery life at lower volume, you're likely to be looking for the differences with a stopwatch rather than getting any meaningful extra run-time from your unit.

For anyone with a volume capped Sony ZX2 EU version, i managed to get rid of the volume cap - not straightforward but it is now possible to root the device with this dodgy Chinese root tool called root360 directly on the device (it can install some bloatware - do at your own risk) and edit the system properties to disable it.. If there's anyone interested I'd be happy to post instructions. I can listen to my Pinnacle P1s at a very good volume now.. just to put a clause, if you decide to do it and you destroy your device I'm not responsible!

Sorry for the necro act, but @shotgunshane , have you by any chance listened to the AK JR with the Pinnacle P1s?

I am tempted by the JR now the price has dropped but the lack of power is holding me back.

My portable headphones and earphones all seem to be quite demanding, the P1s probably more so than everything else I have.

    Cheers.

I haven't yet used the P1 with it but will try it this weekend and get back to you.

I've noticed a weird thing with the WM1A.. Due to a random mishap, the USB cable was unplugged while mine was syncing, and the unit got itself into a bit of a weird state.

Some songs are duplicated in the database, but only appear on the storage once. If you delete one entry from the UI, it leaves the file and the other entry intact. I've only tried deleting the second instance so far, so next time I find an example, I'll try nuking the first to see what happens.

Incidentally, doing a manual database rebuild doesn't clear it, nor does resetting the WM1A to defaults (the most drastic option that doesn't also delete files). I'm guessing that wiping the device and re-syncing would be the most thorough fix.

Looks like an FS-related issue. Have you tried fsck before database rebuilding?

So my CIEMs just crapped out, only after a couple of years of usage, quite disappointed. Not gonna go the CIEM route again. Looks like Andro is the king of IEMs now, probably gonna get that. I don't want to change my DAP though, I have the Cowon Plenue D, output impedance is 0.5 Ohm. Will that work well with the Andro?
