I just ordered my Sine DX blindly so I was wondering if anyone here has had the chance to give the Sine DX a listen? I love my LCD-X's so I was looking for that Audeze sound for on the go/travel. Being that there are only 80 being made, for now, at a $100 discount was nice too.

the sine was brighter with less compression than the LCD series. I think they're the best Audeze has made yet. Hope the DX carries that trend onward.

What kind of asshole move is it to not offer the cypher/lightning cable as an option but mention that it's compatible? You can't buy the sine cable separately, you HAVE to purchase it with the closed SINE. So basically if you want the version that has a DAC/amp built into the cable and speshul DSP to compensate for FR irregularities, you have to buy a closed SINE AND the SINE DX.

That is seriously a middle finger to consumers right there.

And I suspect the Cypher cable is the only real way the headphone sounds acceptable for the price...

The source and accompanying amplification play the biggest role in a headphones sound shaping, that I get. To say that with the use of the Cipher Cable is the only way that the Sine DX will sound acceptable is plain questionable at best. Have you heard the DX yet? I think that at $500.00 it will be competitive especially in the on-ear segment.

I'm betting this might actually be good given my parallel experience with LCD-X and XC
I can't figure this out myself. We got the original Sine in for the loaner program only to discover that we couldn't buy a CIPHER Lightning cable separately. Don't know if this is still true.

I'm pretty sure one of the Audeze leaders is a member of SPECTRE, along with Neil Young and MQA's Bob Stuart. They are way down though. Maybe around #12 or #13. Kim Jong Un is like #3.

I tried to buy the cable separately. Are the EL-8 and Sine terminated the same? The EL-8 cable is available.

Nope, EL8 are terminated with dual-side magnetic thingies. Sine cable features TS minijacks.

Open back Sine...Hmm, might actually sound better than the closed back one. You should send it to me to review. ;)

It was stated in a video hat shipping would be soon after the pre-ordering went live. We'll see. I'll keep everyone posted though.

I don't know how this is region by region, but certainly the Cipher cable is available separately from my local dealer in Switzerland - at around $140 - imports from the USA tend to be expensive here.

Personally I'm out on the idea of an open back on ear, although I can see where others would find benefit of this. Also given that an open back is far less likely to be used in a portable situation I don't think that the Cipher is an optimum solution for these as it limits you to just your iToys. Something like a Dragonfly Red or similar would offer greater flexibility in terms of the sources that could be used, albeit without the inline controls or microphone.

Are you sure it's the SIne cable? The EL-8 cable is available separately in the US but not not the Sine cable.

I agree that the Cipher cable is a convenience more than anything, to me at least. I say this because I have a decent collection of portable amp/dacs that will more than suffice. For instance, I have the Chord Mojo, the CEntrance DACPortable, and the CEntrance HiFiM8 XL4. So for those reasons to Cipher cable is not that appealing to me. I also agree that for an on ear headphone it should be closed back if for nothing else better noise isolation. However, I find that I'm not comfortable with leaving my Grado GS2KE, Grado PS1K, or my LCD-X's around my 3 year old son (who also likes headphones lol) in the bedroom for various reasons. So in my listening room all the aforementioned HP's stay. Now with the Sine DX I feel like I won't be sacrificing too much sound quality while listening during his nap times or late night listening sessions around the house while still being able to hear for him or the mrs. I realize that the on ear design may not be the most comfortable but to be honest I won't be using them for more than an hour at a time; anything over that and I'd be reaching for my LCD-Xs. I hope that the DX's have a more mid forward presentation with no scoop outs in the upper mids while extending the sub-bass and making the treble more linear. We shall see.

I'm still convinced that Apple is to blame for there not being a Cypher cable available separately. I know I'd want to try and attach one to my DT1350 if I could, and Apple likes to lock stuff that's "Made for iPhone" down hard....controlling the ecosystem and all...

I actually liked the original Sine. It did need a little modding as I found it a touch lean overall. But with some damping in the cups, a bit of EQ and some cheap aftermarket pads I did like it. So I went ahead and ordered the DX.

Having heard the original both with and without, I'd say the lightning cable's DSP correcting the FR irregularities makes it worth the price of admission. I'd definitely prefer the cable solution over most other options in the sub $200 space for driving them if you have an iOS device.

WTF, why is it not available in the US?

IMO if you're using an iOS device you'd be crazy not to use the Cypher cable. It's super convenient, sounds very good, and the EQ is a huge boon to those headphones. But then I get annoyed when I have to strap the very thin GOV2+ to my iPhone, let alone a fat ass mother like the Chord. But why bother with extra dongles if the headphones themselves can be hooked into the device directly and you get additional sonic benefits for doing so?
