Good rez. It is a pretty solid choice.

Just over a decade ago, my cousin and I went to the specialty beer shop and decided to have a "750ml Showdown," which basically meant buying every available variety of Chimay and several Unibroue varieties (I know we got La Fin Du Monde and Trois Pistoles, but can't remember the others), and then drinking them all day. We also rented several middling horror films. At the end of the day we were just shitty drunk. We woke up at 4 a.m. to the title menu to some version of the Omen that wouldn't shut up, and the overwhelming smell of "a brewery." To the extent that any of the beers "won" they all did, because we certainly lost.

I wish I had enough to send bottles of the Westy 12 to whomever wanted them. My brother lives in Germany and brought a couple back for me and that's all I have left. I do make it up to Hill Farmstead in the summer every now and then, if you're partial to them.

Last time I tried La Fin du Monde was a few years ago. I thought it was quite good.

That Westvleteren 12 has a label on it. Weird.

I've heard tale that any Westy 12 destined for the USA needs to have a label so Customs knows "what it is" and accepts it at the border if checked.

Yup, US destined Westy must be labeled. Has the governmental warning, too.

I've heard of people shipping beer overseas but calling it organic olive oil...

whoa. hit me a PM if somehow you can ship a Westy 12? !
While I know and understand the relationship between Watou and Westvleteren in the past, and am a regular drinker of ABT 12-
the subtle grassy notes of Westvleteren 12 is a subdued, majestic pleasure to have tasted only 6 or 7 bottles in my lifetime.

heck, planning a 2 week trip to Belgium is on my To Do list for sure.

An ale that i have been enjoying lately is the Domaine Dupage from my local Two Brothers brewery here in the Chicago 'burbs. It's a french country style ale, nicely flavored with caramel. I would recommend picking up a case if you have not tried...

Just finished a pretty insane trade today. I had a couple of cantillon + westy's from my previous trip so I took the opportunity to grab some rare local beers. It's pretty insane how the trade value is for the well sought out Belgian's. Love it.

Just started a couple of experiments on the Zymatic this weekend...Schiit No 2 Brown and Chamberpot Porter. We'll see how they come out in a few weeks (fermentation, cold crash, and racking/force carbonation.)

Coffee porter : my two favorite drinks (of three) combined into single pure bliss.
If it was brewed in old oak whiskey barrels, the circle would be complete.
