I was sitting there, fiddling/struggling with their goofy overpriced DAP with 1996 pocketpc UI... listening to $50K (R&D 'cmon! R & D) headphones, just amazing... didn't know about the HE6 replacement! Bit of video I took not knowing... would have listened to them otherwise! But now I know, the SUSVARA :D

I've not heard any of the other 3 and I'm curious to see what Marv says, but I can attest to the... thinner sound of the HE 4, though I have Beyer Pads on mine, which brought the drivers closer to me, giving the mids a touch more body. Still though, the HE 4 isn't thin so much as it is lean,

It's been a long time, but HE-4 not as muscular in the bass, lighter, and also quite a bit of treble sibilance. The distortion spikes at 2kHz and 5kHz on the HE-4 manifest in the treble.

Yup. M1060 had excellent measured distortion except for the 4kHz spike which is pretty high. Unfortunately, the M1060 just didn't sound very good, at least stock. The M1060 has one of those few headphones where measurements looked better than how it sounded.

Only possible issue with the JLH69 might be slight hum on the L channel where the AC wires go over the board to the power switch in front. Haha. Probably explains why Schiit leaves the power switches in back.

I don't always get the hum. Might be related to time of day / slight DC offset in the mains. Rerouting the wires around the L channel board should cure this issue.

On the topic of amps, I didn't think the Jot would work well given my experience with the HE-5 / Code-X. But just for kicks, I tried the Jot with Modi Multibit fed via CDP. This Theta CDP does sound on the darker and more stately side. (Transports do have a sound).

Wow, this combination actually works very well. The sound is actually relaxed and the timbre excellent. I didn't think this would be the case because the Jotunheim can sound aggressive, but not so in this case.

Compared to the JLH, the Jot doesn't have as much grunt, has a little bit less grip, and has a closer stage, however the bass is deeper, way deeper with better sustain and foundation. Overall presentation with Jot/Modi Multibit is rather dark. JLH69 is more mid-centric.

BTW, Sagaheim is even better. Also the SUSVARA seems to only be moderately difficult to drive. It's just about a 1/6 turn more on the volume knob compared to HD800.

SUSVARA is definitely growing on me. I will say is that this headphone is very sensitive to amps and source. Just as much as HD800, Utopia, etc.

Marv, would you mind TPing the Susvara and hearing/measuring how that changes its characteristics?

Just one ply of super cheap stuff (thin), which is how I have been using it. I'm also sure the pads might have worn in a bit with use, more squished in, resulting in less brightness. I haven't burned in the headphone for more than a a few hours either. Might warrant another measurement in a week? I can definitely see @jerg pad type mods being beneficial; but I don't really hear the SUSVARA as needing mods much as as the HEK or HE-560.

If you are from Okinawa, why are you coming in from Florida and Guang Dong in China?

Would love to see how these measure against the HE-6, either modded or stock.

@brencho might stop by with a modded HE-5 / Code-X. Closest thing to an HE-6.

Marv... If you were to buy one of these with your own hard earned dollars, considering what is on the market, at street prices, what would you pay for this?

I was just telling @bazelio how much I regret selling my code-x.
