I would simply say, not necessarily. I haven't heard enough ciems to give a good rec, but iems in that price range can absolutely compete with portable closed backs for sound quality, and generally will isolate even more. I'd start with what you think you'd prefer practically and go from there

Pretty decent actually. Nice improvement over the original. No longer squeezing my ears. Cable and case were better on the original. Not quite a "mini-650" but that analogy isn't completely false either. Great at $250.

Hello everyone, what would be considered a solid upgrade to the GO450 amp if I want to drive the K7xx, modded T50RPs (power hungry) and maybe an HD650 in the future?

    Thanks.

So I've been doing my HD600 great injustice with line out on a Lenovo, so what amp or amp/DAC can get me the furthest on a <$350 CAD budget? I could get a GOV2 or see if theHeadphoneBar can sneak in a Modi/Magni 2....or maybe ditch a DAC and go full Valhalla?

Doesn't matter, just looking for a solid upgrade with a decent price to performance ratio.
I'm willing to consider portable units if they are truly portable, like the GOV2+, I just wouldn't be sure the SQ is considerably better?

Hi, I bought the he400s after hearing good things on here and tyll's review. I listened to them next to he400i and thought that bass slam was much better on 400s and the treble was less harsh on s but also less detailed. However, the he400s still sound too sharp to my sensitive ears. I was wondering if there is a way to deal with that. Either a mod or a warm amp pairing. My budget for an amp is under 500. If possible I'd also like an amp that can give me a bit more out of the bass.

HPB will not get you a MM Schiit stack. I tried.

V2 would be my first choice followed by O2+ODAC combo, or Resonessence Labs Herus. But I'd suggest to put all money into a dedicated amp, something from Garage1217 or an Asgard 2.

As an amp, I really like the Leck 6S-II. I use it with every sort of headphone (via GO450 or iPod 5.5), and it's actually better than a lot of the big amps I've heard at meets. I haven't heard the GO 2d gens yet, but I'd be very pleasantly surprised if they're better as amps. Best luck!

Hmm.. I'd say get the valhalla 2 and then get a dac. It's probably a more significant upg than what the modi/magni 2 will bring you. Plus you'll have a solid amp until you hit $1k+. GOv2 would probably be a great choice too, if you can reterminate or get a new cable.

Lyr2 perhaps or a Garage amp will power all those nicely, or mjolnir 2 if you can swing for it. Torpedo III seems to be doing pretty well if you can DIY. Liquid Carbon is an option too.

Thanks, guys, seems the Garage1217 amps lie in a convenient middle ground.

Do you think the leck could power a T50RP successfully?

Hell yes! Or I certainly think so. The phone I use most with it is a Paradox.

But it might depend on your mod. ZMFs, for example, are comparatively hard to drive. I haven't tried it with one of Zach's phones but I'm reasonably confident the Leck could do it on high gain.

Sadly, the Leck 6Sii has not been available for a long time... maybe like six months now?

Can anyone recommend a good switcher? or just something people use?

For the life of me, i cant really find anything that is like the "audiophile" standard. Basically something like the Schiit Sys (which i have or i believe Emotiva had one) but i find it so limited as it only has 1 output and 2 inputs or vice versa.
Do people generally tend to use their DACs/Amps as their switches or do people just get something from Radioshack/monoprice?
    thanks a mil~

Anyone have recommendations for a cheap but decent XLR cable? I only need them to test out the Gungnir Multibit, not for long term use.

Are any of garage1217's amps warm and bassy? And would that be a suitable amp for my he400s?
