Oh shit now I'm feeling embarrassed. I never actually thought about this and should have done.

Does this mean that fancy speakers where the tweeter can be moved backwards and forwards are based on a nonsense?

Am I going to spend the rest of my life discovering that what I "learnt" about audio is largely rubbish?

Will I ever make a YouTube headphone-review video?

I am only sure about the answer to one of those questions. Well, fairly sure.

This is just me guessing, but time differences could happen in the crossover?

That's why crossover should be kept as simple as possible.

I'm betting on either, "Yes, total nonsense," or "I completely misunderstood, not nonsense, it does something else entirely."

Either way, it's just another thing I got wrong. :punk:

But a good crossovers can be made to correct for physical alignment issues through phase shifts.

Obviously time alignment be it physical or electrical is a thing, so lets remember that we are making fun of zeos and his exploitation of it.

Send him a black one and call it a Valhalla 3 and see if he likes it more.

I understand why people around here don't like the guy. He says some head scratchers sometimes. That being said, I kinda appreciate his style and I'll be honest, his channel was sort of a gateway drug for me when I first got into the hobby. I think he serves a pretty useful purpose getting the kids excited about higher end audio gear that's within reach.

He's probably talking about his Patreon account. In addition, he should be earning some income through youtube ad buys, and I'm sure he has direct contributors as well via paypal, not to mention all the free review gear he gets from his viewers.

Although depending on where he lives 3k a month problably doesn't even cover his rent.

There's plenty of people who make over 20k a month on patreon so in terms of youtube creators he's pretty much small fry.

I disagree. This guy seems to me like a naked scammer, and in some ways worse than HF. As someone said once, he's an entertainer, not a gear reviewer. As such, all he does is farm people to get to buy something, anything through his affiliate links: "Welcome to Zeos, thanks for my monthly income". This makes it all the worse that he seems to be ruling the rooster on reddit and pushing his links there, as this is a gateway for many people. As far as I'm concerned, Zeos is a variation on the shilling theme, just in a different presentation and with a different scope.

And if you still have doubts, here's what Zeos is trying to pitch to kids:

I don't find this useful, or sane.

Very rarely are the tweeter and woofer perfectly time aligned. This could be due to the impedance/phase plots, the crossover, or some other voodoo. Usually, this results in the woofer being a bit "slower" than the tweeter. In this regard, think of it as if the tweeter got a bit of a head start on producing sound. If the tweeter and woofer are mounted on a flat baffle, the tweeter literally makes sound a smidgen before the woofer does. Because of this, the acoustic axis is not going to be perpendicular to the baffle surface, but rather it will point downwards a couple degrees. The cheap fix for this is to mount the tweeter back, so even though the woofer is "late", the sound it produces will be in time with the tweeter that fired just a millisecond earlier.

pro: you don't have to wrangle the crossover
    con: more complex baffle

But she is pretty, so maybe I'll watch the video with the the sound off. Or... maybe not.
So not complete bullshit then. Good! For an ordinary guy in the audio world, these days, certainties are getting fewer. Once one knocks down the castle walls of dogma, that is.
