    Hi Michael,
    Great boards!
    Just 2 simple questions:
    1. How much (aprox) will be shipping (I live South Korea)
    2. Why the price of combo is higher (not much but still) than the separate options together (169USD vs 59+99=158USD)

I'm not yet decided which to chose and probably I will get both even if I will not use the dac sections other than occasionally.

    Thank you

As @bilboda said the early bird perks are deeply discounted. With Indiegogo you can select more than one perk so get one of each early bird!

    Cheers,
    Michael

Yeay! It`s here! Got delayed by customs for 3 days but finally I got my greedy fingers on one of these boards. Did have to pay 30 more euros for waiting on those lazy fucktards as well. But at least now I can rest assured: my government loves me!

Well packaged by the way and on visual inspection alone it looks very decent. Now if only my BNC cable was delivered just as fast...pffff.
Anyway I`ll mount it on a raspberry tonight and hook it up via toslink and see what happens.

    I`ll keep you posted.

I just got my Rpi3 this week. I tried HQplayer NAA yesterday and just installed Volumio a hour ago with the LG HiFi Plus (using ES9028 chip).

I plays relatively well for what it is worth (I paid usd50 for it).

I just wonder what benefits I will get using a hat like the 502DAC pro to connect to my (other) DAC iFi iOne via toslink vs just connect the iOne to the USB port of the RPi3?

    Thx.

I`m finding out right now! So I can confirm mine works. Using a cheapycheapy digital-coax with the BNC-adapter that came with the 502 into my Gungnir DS with the oldschool usb-in (the one it came with I guess that would be 2.0) Listening to Wish you were here right now. Rather chuffed... the soundstage seems much wider(compared to the usb). It`is a bit early for verdicts but I think I really like the way it sounds.

[IMG] That worked out rather well,

No cases were harmed during the making of this Frankenthingy.

    Looks great!

Care to share what parts you used to realize this?

    Sure:

    1. pi-2 design502 DAC
    2. pi2design 502 CASE (you have to leave the side out for the touchscreenribbon)
    3. Official raspberry pi 7 inch touchscreen (which has his own powersupply)
4.SmartiPi touchscreen case (that has a couple of holes on the back that line up with the ones on the pi2-case,
    5. (In my case) a linear powersupply but that may be overkill. Another powersupply to feed DAC and pi is needed I think but I didn`t test it.
    7. sd-card (but that might be obvious)

The SmartiPi case has a small detachable cover under which you normally put the pi. I put the pi in the 502-case and two screws go through the bottom of the case into the cover. The other two screws hold the pi and the dac. Its a little crooked so I think I just drill 2 little hole in the 502 case later. It is even detachable without needing to screw. With a little gap for the touchscreenribbon somewhere it wil be perfect. (Until I have time to do something in wood.)

    Awesome!

I will make a modification to the next revision of the case to add a slot in the back panel for the display flex.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Here is a capture of the 502DAC Pro in a case with the slot cutout for the Pi display Flex. Thanks for the idea @HumanFly!

BTW, it also shows a sneak peak at the Alps analog volume control add-on to the 502DAC Pro (sorry not for the 502DAC) we are prototyping. Don't tell anyone! We'll do an update when the prototypes are back and tested.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Glad to be of use!

Still listening with care and so far:
    1. There seems to be more low-end(or maybe more defined low-end that goes slightly lower).
    2. Voices seem more natural and float on top of the music in a way they didnt do before.(this may well be the most apparant difference/didn`t listen to much electronic music yet)
    3. Not sure if there is that much more detail-I think there is more but I would need to A-B to make sure- but there seems to be more nuances in the detail.(sounds silly I know I mean I did hear all the background-bongo`s in Pusherman before but now they seem more seperated and they differ more between eachother. Stuff like that)
    4. Soundstage also seems wider but my setup is no superstagemonster so there might be more than I hear.(or I still need to find the right recordings)
5.Overall seperation seems better too (probably what is happening to the voices and why they seem to float more)

This is compared to my raspberry fed by an LPS (over the gpio-pins) connected by usb(PYSST-cable) via Wyrd into Gungnir DS without usb upgrades. (new setup is the pi fed through 502 with same LPS via coax into Gungnir DS)

So I`ll listen to this for a while and then swap back to usb. Usually differences become even more apparant when I go back.
When I get my slightly fancy BNC-cable I`ll give that some time too and try to be more final in my conclusions.

For now I say it`s much better and I`ll stick with it.

Also (I kinda forgot to mention this) on my question :

So...which of the two options below should I use for the Gungnir DS BNC in?

The BNC output has two voltage levels selected by jumper P4. With the
jumper installed, the output level is 1V P-P. This is the desired level for
standard AES3 via BNC, used primarily by professional audio devices.
Removing the jumper sets the level to 600mv P-P, which is compatible
with consumer level devices via RCA.

My guess would be to leave the jumper ON.
But it doesn`t hurt to doublecheck I guess/hope.

Baldr (the guy who made Gungnir) said:
Either should be fine - try the 1V first.

We have actually remove the jumper in the final version in gone with the higher voltage. This is compatible with the professional level, but not too high for the commercial devices.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Would be very nice if the ALP volume button can do mutli func like single click pause, double clicks...

We will have a rotary control similar to this for both the 502DAC and 502DAC Pro. There is a select switch on it. Unfortunately the Alps does not have a push-button switch with a potentiometer.

Hmmm, should I do aboard with both?

    Cheers,
    Michael
