Do yourself a favor and don't ever check out the anime "toy figure" market. It makes those images vanilla in comparison...

I wonder which 400i he heard. There's two (one with the screw-ins and one with the normal connectors) and they both sound completely different. The one with the normal connectors was made into...a planar beyer can for some godawful reason.

Oh. He reviewed the old connector ones. I received the new 2.5 mm connector ones. That explains things.

Earlier this year, I followed his advice and I bought the Monoprice 1060. He gave glowing reviews of the headphone, stating that it was better than any Hifiman from 4/5/6 series and was nearly on par to the HE1000. I believed him. I thought "Wow, I don't need to spend a grand for an LCD2".

Wrong. An unmodified 1060 has ringing issues that are so bad that you don't want to use headphone. I had to use felt on the internal walls of the driver and buy some expensive pads to compensate for the 1060 issues.

This isn't a rant against the 1060. What I'm trying to say that if Zeos had decent ears he would have noticed the ringing and the strange issues with the middle frequencies. I wouldn't have bought the 1060, I would have either bought a 400i or saved up and bought the LCD2.

I think this is a disservice because these headphones are not being sold in a local electronics store nearby. I can't just go and test them out. (I can't even test an Audeze phone in my town.) I depend on word of mouth for buying a good HP and if he is hawking damaged goods to people that don't know any better then he should be called out for it.

He might have done incompetent review of HE400i but he did not make you buy it. If you bought a pair of headphones after one youtube "positve" review, who is here to blame?

The issue is that they are, essentially, illustrations of little girls...and he occasionally refers to them as if they are real people.

But it's the part that they're little girls, and usually always little girls, that is especially disturbing...

Now imagine what he has that he doesn't put on display.

It's a disturbing and misogynistic culture for sure.

Z reviews have always been pretty useless, or misleading, sometimes funny.
But I think that the most disturbing thing about his channel is that he plain does not care anymore about gear, listening to it, giving his best effort advice etc...
It is very visible in his IEM reviews. I wanted to buy IEM some time ago and watched one of his IEM shootouts. I think IEM reviews are difficult by nature; a lot depends on the selection of ear tip and overall fit.
I could not believe it but Z spent like 40 mins jerking six pairs of cables on his desk, the rest was just incomprehensible ramble. From the comments people apparently did not see it that way.

Having said that this thread is getting pretty close to blaming North Korean purchase of the Chinese ICBMs on Z favorable review.

No idea who that is but I suspect that it's a sarcastic objection to my criticism of Japanese sexualized little-girl culture.

Hopefully you newer members will start to learn how to read through the bullshit, bull shit and bias exist every where and within the views and writings of every reviewer. Some to a greater degree some to a lesser degree, but Learn the preferences of the reviewer and how they relate to your own, once you do that you can get a more realistic idea of what they are hearing, and what you might be hearing as well

An it goes without saying, the impressions of many will give you a clearer picture, than the impressions of one. Even if they all disagree on if the product is good or bad, you'll always find traits that are mentioned, the key is not to look for how the trait is described, but the trait it self. You know what you like in a headphone and for the most part the individual trait's that give you a picture of frequency and time response will always be mentioned.

An example, I've been eye balling the ATH AT R70X, two things that always show up are :the Bass :Grain or Extra Energy up top, to quote some random interweb reviews and a quote from a member here

took me three minuets and I found two reviews that both highlight the same trait, even the MOST positive bull shitting reviewer will mention these traits, he/she may use fancy adjectives to describe them but ultimately, bassier and less smooth up top [which might as well be strong treble lift] are how the AT R70X will sound.

The only real exception to this is Jude :/ as he will validate what ever he's hearing with measurements to back him up... the MDR Z1R thread was an example of just that, and even then there was a larger pool of data again'st him so ultimately his point is/was an outlier

If Z reviews is him self an outlier, contributing very... in consistent impressions when compared to the larger pool of data than it really invalidates him... an if your only point of reference is an outlier... well than I hope your able to take a step back and gain some more perspective, but people have to want to widen their perspective. If his viewers don't want to grow then they won't and nothing we can do will force them to change their perspective

I wasn't referring to the entire Japanese culture. Just the part mentioned.

She's a feminist YouTuber who attracted the ire of the Internet when she Kickstarted a video series about problematic tropes around women in video games. She's often demonized as everything wrong with modern feminism, but, while she's not exactly uncontroversial within the feminist community either, she's not half as radical or as important as people make her out to be. She's really not that interesting -- her actual work is mostly dry and academic explanations of very basic feminism, and she's not particularly interesting outside of being a target of anger for one side and a sympathetic victim for the other.

More on topic, though -- yeah, Zeos should probably tone down the scantily clad anime girls, but I think it's a bit off to criticise him for listening to anime music. Some anime actually has pretty good music, since it's a good way for Japanese bands to get publicity, and if that's something you listen to, then it should be part of your gear evaluation.

I don't care that he unabashedly displays anime depictions of ill-clad underage girls... Because, unbeknownst to him or not, he's giving us a glimpse into what his tendencies are.

And as a female all I see is "creep," "creep," "creep."
