I apologise for necro, but: OMG can i give you an internet cookie for this comment? SO true. And nowhere is this worst as in reddit. people just seem COMPLETELY random about likes. Many times ive seen almost IDENTICAL comments saying basically teh same thing where one has +25 and the other is like -30 or something.

yea but IME people vote like monkeys, and that's the fundamental issue. As i said above i've seen tonnes of times where almost identical posts/comments have gotten completely different number of votes on the same subreddit, and that makes ZERO sense. So that way the system that's there to "weed out the idiots" doesn't actually do so, it just weeds out those with bad luck, or the posts that don't "look good", it's the vanity of a "looks based culture" expressed at it's worst.

Always hurts me to see people trying to throw around the "scientific and objective" stand point when they clearly have no basic understanding of what they're talking about. "Bits are bits", "if frequency response is the same then they sound the same", on and on. I am a man of science but thinking that we already know everything about the brain is pure arrogance. There are objectivist points out there that are valid and are worthy for discussion, but the majority of points that get thrown on r/headphones are often not.

There are still some very pleasant users on there though. I've had some lengthy discussions with u/I_want_all_the_tacos and have gained some valuable insights on neuropsychology, digital processing of brain signals (brain-computer interface) and similar topics as he works in that field. Pleasant encounters like that keep me going back on r/headphones despite the majority of posts on there offering little to no value.

If it wasn't for Reddit I'd be banned from here. I need somewhere to get the dumb jokes and shitposts out of my system. There's a place for everything..

You should see this gentleman named ilkless over there. Just watch, don't interact with him, he's kind of a.....and I never use this word, but he's a twat. He's strings together random articles to prove his point (like a IEM can be EQ'd to function exactly like a HD800 in sound. Not kidding.) He told mr. Tacos (who I think is actually on SBAF somewhere) that his field has nothing to do with audio and the science behind it. It was fun.

A couple nights ago...actually, f**k it, I'll copy the interaction:

Random dude: "I'm happy you liked the 2 more but I kinda laugh at the notion that the 2 "blows them out of the water." I actually had the cash ready for the 2, X, or 3, and the X wasn't even a question."

Me: "The question is "when" did you listen to that LCD 2 though? The last revision of the LCD 2 was terrible."

    Random dude:
"Oh come on. So basically you're going to play the "this revision that revision you're always wrong because you're not talking about the right revisions" game?

"Oh those LCD-2s were bad, you need the ones made on a Tuesday in October of 2016 on the eastern half of the facility, the X's were done on a Friday in March over on the southwestern corner so they're bad."

Basically no matter what I say, because I disagree with you, you're just gonna claim I listened to the wrong ones and you're totally right if I'd just heard the ones you did. This is pointless. I could easily say the same to you. Maybe YOU heard a bad set of X's."

...He then proceeds to go off on AMW1011 because he thought he was me, and then continues his tirade on me. It was hilarious in a way.

That ass-hat, and the numerous people like him (coupled with the moderators' disinterest in doing anything about them) is why r/headphones needs a bullet parked in it's brain-pan asap.

Now that you mention it, I recall ilkless making very long posts on r/headphones regarding how Schiit is lying about their products and their multibit DACs should be ignored. I tried asking what are considered "good" DACs in his opinion but never got a reply.

I bought the Yggdrasil anyways after reading AtomicBob's measurements and countless positive reviews on SBAF and other sites.

He's a goober. After his rants about the subreddit on the audiophile subreddit, I became pretty sure he's a huge troll.

This is going to go against the grain of the thread, but I feel like this is a good example of them doing something nice. They didn't downvote my post or attack it where I said "$1000+ dacs make a huge difference and are actually worth the money."

Reddit had some potential early on, especially for newcomers. I was very hopeful about it. Now, it's gotten taken over by 22 year old malcontents, skilled in the art of Google-Fu, bent on proving other people wrong. Which reminds me, I need to add an entry to my hosts file so I can't access Reddit. Waste of time.

Saw that post today and had a feeling it was you (the paco part) :). I have listened to much less DACs and amps, but from my limited experience I full-heartedly agree with your "two sweet spots" opinion. I can see how most people will find the performance of amps and DACs at the low hundreds of dollars more than enough to be end game. Hell, I would have settled with Fulla 2 for my lab audio setup if it had enough current driving capabilities to amp the Aeon... at least now I have the perfect excuse to order the Magni 3!

Sadly I also fall within that age group... For the better or worse, I do get to surround myself with like-minded peers being in academia, so there's that ;).
