@Carlos CPA Not only does it sound great but looks great as well. The Gungnir Multibit has the perfect form factor stacked over your BW2

Hey all...do the newer HD650s stll have serial # stickers inside the earcup (when you've removed the earpads)?

I've seen some people discussing that, but mine do not. Just checking.

@Skyline - I just checked a HD650 that is less than 2 years old, no serial # sticker.

Pretty sure I've mentioned this before, but I use some rolled up TP tucked under the rear section of the pads to angle them inwards. This moves the centre image forward for me, like from between my eyes to where my glasses are.

    That is true.
Position has a big impact on imaging and small impact on tonality imo.

What I have also found out that if you have big ears and if your HD650s are positioned in a way that pushes your helix - image changes for the worse.

Adding Gen V to the Bifrost Multibit kicked these up a notch. It would do the same for most headphones, obviously, but it's still worth noting.

I have a better appreciation for how well the 650 can capture the true textures of sound (Is this timbre?). It feels like a slight film/grain I hadn't noticed before has been removed.

I've been listening to the HE-560 for a while, then decided to listen to the HD650 (unmodded). I noticed when listening to them that the soundstage is really expansive, much more than I remember. I'm still using the same source just a different DAC And amp (Gungnir Multibit and Mjolnir 2). I do not have any plug-ins in my source's software to expand sound stage and still using JRiver like I always have with the HD650. The soundstage is nice, on the HD650's of course, but for some reason mine seem like the left an right channels are so far separated that a lot of definition and great sound the HD650 is loved for is not there. I have no idea what could be causing this, like I mentioned above this has never occurred before. Since the sound seems so separated between the left and right channels, they sound very thin and kinda terrible (something I never thought I would say about the HD650). I usually listen to just moderate levels (meaning I do not crank them at really high volumes, so I seriously doubt there is something wrong with the drivers themselves, or maybe I just got a bad pair (bought them on 11/4/16.

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks!

Any chance you are somehow listening with channels reversed (out of phase)?

My recently purchased pair from Amazon, STILL don't give the same magic as my 3 year old pair. I've put the requisite hours on them and spend plenty of listening time with them. But they still have an etchy quality in the mids that my old pair never had.

I've had the same issue when I tested a Fruman power conditioner recently. Soundstage moved far to the left and right channel with a hole in the middle and lean and razor sharp sound. Very strange.

Is that "left" from the DAC into "right" on the AMP? Thanks!

No I have the left out from DAC, to left in of the Amp, same for the right.

Sorry to be totally basic here but just checking - have you tried resetting your multibit dac and have you tried a different cord?

Hi @DigMe - yes I did both. I finally figured out the issue. It was the balanced cable I was using. I had a balanced cable custom made and decided to switch to the original 1.4" plug and it fixed the issue. I guess it is just a bad Balanced cable.

They probably had one side reversed, so the polarity was reversed and would sound REALLY weird.

glad it was something simple! I have twice had issues where I started thinking I had a busted driver or something when it turned out I just needed to reset my multibit DAC.

Now it looks like I need a new Balanced HD650 cable, but I really don't want to spend the money on one. But you are right @DigMe, I am glad it isn't something more serious. The Gentleman that makes my custom cables always does an outstanding job, this is the first time I have ever had an issue with any of his cables.
