Seems available for shipping on their website, though you have to pay tax so they end up around 640. Thinking about getting this instead of a PMx2 because it seems more affordable and if the impressions are that good, I might take a plunge.

Oh gawd. I was hoping y'all would wait until I got mine and had some dedicated listening time on tbem. Well the comparison with the PMx2 was surprising so IMO at least they aren't shit.

I mean if you listened to that much gear and it stood out for you that much.....it has to be special. Also the price isn't 6000 dollars and the return policy is quite great! Don't really care about technicalities more so than something is neutral in a non thin way that helps me connect with the music. I was about to buy a used Oppo pm2, but I'm glad I ran into your impressions along with thepianoman. Anyhow, looking forward to sharing impressions!

Was Correlated Magnetics in attendance with their headphone by any chance?

I think it should be noted which version of the PMx2 you listened to. I think there are pretty solid differences between the revisions (according to other SBAF members).

I'll let @AllanMarcus confirm but I think his PMx2 was one of the earliest versions, might have been the first, which from my understanding was a little darker but with slightly less bass and treble, IMO pretty damn neutral with a broad depressions centered around 4-5kHz creating a pleasing laid back sound and a more expansive sound stage.

It was fantastic. If the ARs sound like that and are half as comfortable, they are a steal at $600.

Edit: I should add: I don't know how well they scale on better gear. It also depends on how much more 2-6k presence they had than the PMx2. Probably just about right, if @cskippy likes it. Our tastes seemed to match on those PMx2s. Looking forward to his full and in depth review... Hehehe

The AR Planar is tempting but then I remember that LFF has an in house planar coming as well. FML ... LFF, Auteur, HP3, HD660, AR-H1 ... too many killer cans coming out. If I was a rich man.

Heard those AR cans at SoCal CanJam. Not sure if they were a final production version, looked like it. Great build quality, though original OPPO PM-2 is probably still better, including SQ. Those who like brighter signatures and lighter but less portable designs may think different.

Are you sure you didn't let your your eyes color your opinion?

You do realize only one of those tweeters is actually driven as a tweeter. I have listened to two different sets of Double Impacts in different environments with both solid state and tube amps and have never heard anything close to "painfully bright". Heck, my listening room should show any signs of brightness as I have no treatments and lots of surfaces for the highs to reverberate off of. Also, the speakers have plenty of bass and the bass is clear and detailed.

Now, before you accuse me of being a homer since I own the speakers, I was quite prepared to send the speakers back if I did not like them. I am quite picky and the freight fee would not have bothered me in the least. I am a huge fan of these speakers.

Maybe it was the room/equipment combination. I don't see how it could be the speakers based on my experience.

Thanks @Marvey sorry, I fornatted it in a separate editor but for some reason it didn't copy over when I pasted it, and it was late my time. I'll doublecheck next time.

    @winders

The tweeters are supposed to be radiators or something right? The Tekton lineup has changed a bit in the last few years and I haven't kept up with all of it. Someone also mentioned the gear in the rooms was parasound, and I never met a parasound amp I got along with tbh.
Like I said, might have been the room, equipment, etc. but the sound just didn't come together for whatever reason, for me. Doesn't mean its bad gear!

Usual caveats about show conditions/different tastes.

LOL. Just giving you a hard time. Nearing 50 and visual acuity finally declining. Eyes actually get fatigued now trying to read stuff on screens.

Welcome to the club. My dad reckons anyone over 41 who doesn't wear reading glasses is in denial. After having perfect vision, my eyes fell off a cliff at... 41. Clearly I have my dad's genes. Tip... Get decent quality readers. Poundland glasses make life look SD.
