Hi, I’m returning a pretty noisy vidar as imho defective, but reading this maybe I could fix the issue myself, would you please explain the ground lifting process? Thanks

Edit: should I just remove the ground pin from the power lead?

That is what I did. I used one those little grey adapter plugs that have only two prongs on the male side. I did this with Freya and left Vidar with ground.

Did you ever try an Emotiva CMX-2? I have hum with my Aficionado and VIdar so I think I have some crappy power.

Thank you my Freya is pretty quiet, but vidar started buzzing really loud once turned on, I tried using an travel adapter to lift the ground and it worked. Now I wonder how safe it is keeping it in this way

You might be interested in this exchange in the M-22 thread [link]. Jason recommended the EbTech HumX in a similar situation. It might be a good idea to spend a little more time diagnosing your ground loop issues first though.

No as I have a 2.5kVa Topaz isolation transformer wired so it provides balanced power. There was clearly a ground loop issue with my setup that I could not easily fix. At least not with Vidar. The Pioneer M-22 uses a 2 prong plug from the Factory so that solved it for me.

I haven't tried them myself but VE Monks have gathered decent following esp for their seriously low price.

You might find this resource compiled by @La Cenric helpful [link]. Lots of good information for all price points

Can anyone with a Squeezebox Touch clarify if they got a Gen5 Yggdrasil/Gungnir Multibit/Bifrost Multibit to work with USB-out? I have a Yggdrasil with Gen3 and it works as it should but I've read here that the Eitr didn't work so I'm a little concerned.

Oddly, when I had a Gungnir Multibit (Gen2), I couldn't get it to work with the SBT.

This sounds like a solid advice and some equipment doesn't like these A LOT.

Is the correlation between increased OI and the bass response of BA drivers standard or is the effect sometimes inverted? So, does higher OI ever equal less bass or is it always more, just more pronounced on some IEMs?

I ask because I was looking at the Sony PHA-1A which has an OI of 10ohms to drive my new multidriver BA IEMs which are already a little too bassy.

    Thank you

It depends on the shape of the impedance curve of the phones. Frequencies where the impedance is higher will get boosted with higher Zout, or conversely, frequencies where the impedance is lower will get boosted with lower Zout. For example, the Andromeda has very low impedance at low frequencies and thus has boosted bass with low Zout sources, and sounds thinner with higher Zout sources.

Look up the impedance curve for your IEMs.

Thank you. I think that means that in this one particular instance, the higher frequencies will get boosted with a higher Zout.

I will do some more research on the matter.

For anyone else interested, I am talking about the AF160 from Audiofly. There are graphs on Innerfidelity.

    Thank you

Reposting from the Eddie Current sub-forum...

EC Copperhead would have satisfied a yet unfulfilled need - a no compromise, highly resolving TOTL solid state.

BW is a remarkable amplifier but the indulgence goes to 11. Ragnarok is technically proficient but, from memory, borders on clinical, especially when using a neutral-ish DAC.

What other options are there in the solid state arena for an amplifier with resolution and clarity along with just a touch of the EC ‘holographic’ house sound? My headphones are HD600 and PMx2. I don’t see that changing in the foreseeable future (except potentially by adding whatever LFF is cooking ATM)

ECP has always interested me, but they are kind of unobtanium...

I tried a bunch of different EDO experimental builds and could not get it to play nice with the Eitr. It saw the Eitr, but it would just go into a reboot loop.
