Well the good news is that the film was developed in a week and they uploaded scans to download.

Bad news is that it was my sister's roll from elementary school.

    Awww....

You can always to get pro places to pursh process too if it is really old and just sat around.

I have some 220 slide film, 120 color negative film, a couple of 35mm slide film rolls, and about 3 or 4 rolls of neg. 35mm that are in a ziplock back in my fridge that I have been meaning to send off to Dwayne's. Man I miss my Pentax 6x7.

Somewhere, I think I have a roll of 35mm film that never got processed. But it might be as much as thirty-plus years old. The last thirteen of those years have been in a hot, humid, tropical atmosphere.

Would it still be worth digging out?

My friend said he developed film that was sitting in a car and all he got was garbage.

Two weeks ago, my wife found an old undeveloped 35mm roll of C-41 B&W film from her college days. I took it to a highly rated studio roughly 20 minutes away, hopefully they can get something out of it. They seem to be known for their film development lab according to reviews on Google.

There's a place closer to my house that develops film, I've used them once already but wasn't sure of the results. There are what seem like roller marks through the first half of the roll and there's a lot of artifacts in them as well. I haven't ruled out light leaks just yet but the 2nd half of the roll was pretty good. To confirm I shot another roll of cheap Fuji and am getting it processed at the studio I took the wife's film. Hopefully they can produce better results.

Any general tips for someone looking to get back into photography again? I have a Nikon D40 with the kit 18-55mm and the 35mm f/1.8 prime from years ago that I'll probably be using. Been considering getting a fuji x-t20, but I think I should hold off until I really know I want to use a dedicated camera over my Google Pixel.

Far too big. Wish I could get the 150 here, I think it would be perfect.

Bought a Tamrac Rally 5 for not much money, and I think it is going to be about the right size for me for quite a long time. But, compared to the Lowepro, the quality is not nearly as good.

Did I mention buying a used Sigma 30/1.4 e-mount? Compatible with the a6000 focus etc, it lacks only stabilisation and is really rather nice. Hmm... probably I did mention it.

It's a bit hard to give targeted advice as I don't know your backround or shooting preferences, but for what it's worth I did move from a similar era camera (Canon 30D) to a Nikon D750 and then a Fuji X100F.

The D750 was astounding in terms of image quality, especially low light. This was coupled with good lenses (Sigma 50 1.4 ART and Tamron 70-200 2.8). The downsides were that this setup was extremely bulky- not a big deal before with the Canon 30D and similar lenses, but now I have young kids. Carrying kid gear + camera gear is a huge clunky mess. If I didn't have kids, I would have stuck with this system. Instead, it is now pulled out only for special occasions.

The X100F was then bought for size reasons. It's still (barely) pocketable and produces vastly better images than a camera phone. Out of camera jpeg colours are more pleasing than the Nikon, to the extent that I won't try to post process colour. There is a big tradeoff with low light performance compared to the DSLR and there is the obvious limiting factor of a fixed focal length, but for my uses it's been fine. It'd also be good as a walk around town camera.

I've tried the halfway sized Fuji cameras- off memory the X-T2/X-T1, and feel that if it's too big to pocket, then I may as well just go full size DSLR and get the benefits of sensor size.

As an aside, as a long term DSLR user, I could never come to grips with EVF. I still use OVF (both the my current cameras have good viewfinders) or with the X100F sometimes I use the back screen. After using the X100F for a while, which has both a good EVF and OVF, I realise that an EVF-only camera would have been a constant source of frustration for me.

Lastly, look into Peak Designs for camera management. They make extremely well thought out packs, and their Capture clip system is unrivaled- I have used that system for everything from walking around at kids' birthday parties to full on rockclimbing.

Was trying it over weekend in Tokyo on my Olympus EM10ii, so nice lens! And used in Japan going as low as 230 USD...

    Excellent advice!

I'm in the same position. I'm also looking to downsize, mainly because back in Scotland I was almost always wearing lots of clothes with pockets and so another bag wasn't a big deal. However, now I live in the south of France and my wardrobe has slimmed down considerably. Even a Fujifilm X100F ( which I have looked into and like a lot) would be a burden in this climate. But I can't find a truly pocketable camera that will replace my Nikon D200 so I'm actually thinking of moving to the Nikon D5600 instead. It's true that it's almost as bulky as my current camera but it's much better sensor & vastly increased dynamic range would at least make the weight somewhat wothwhile.

It's a shame, really. I think there's definitely a market for a large sensor in a pocketable shape but nobody has built anything in the last five years that ticks all my boxes. Maybe I'll still be shooting with the D200 in ten years time.

For truly pocketable I'd go with an Sony RX100 lineup. I owned 3 of their iterations, I, II, and IV and they were great while I had them.

I've got a Canon G7X, which has the same sensor size and a comparable lens design, chosen over the Sony for UI reasons. It's certainly handy, but I find that image quality doesn't compare at all to the APS-C Fujis, especially when it comes to nice DoF effects for portraiture.

It's been languishing in a drawer as it's not sufficiently compelling against a good phone camera. I guess if I really needed a lot of optical zoom + pocketability, it'd see more use, but generally when I need zoom I also want shallow DoF.

I've had a play with one before & nearly dropped it due to it's non-existant ergonomics. It's good on paper but not in my big hands.

This was the camera I was the most favourable about when reading the reviews and because, as you say, the UI does seem better thought out than the Sony or anything by Panasonic. Then I started reading of big discrepancies in the lenses and that put me off.

I only really want a nice prime lens, there's no need for a zoom for what I'm going to use it for. Having said that I could get a nice modern Nikon body in the D5600 or D7200 and continue to use my existing lenses.
