I like the BW more. It's a fantastic match for my Eikons and 650s.

The Lyr holds it's own, and might even go a full 9 rounds with the BW, but would lose by judges decision or KO. Different fighting styles. (They sound different.)

Also, my cans aren't the best at sound stage (something that's not critical to me anyway) so I'm not really weighing that heavily into my impressions.

Thank you for all the impressions. So far this amp sounds like a winner to me. Can't wait to pick one up after the problem with 230V has been sorted (after April, right?).

Would love to hear more impressions on the new AKM4490 DAC module as well. I hated it with the Jot but that was Gen 1; it sounded harsh, dull, and flat with zero depth to me -- compared to Modi Multibit and Fulla 2 at least.

What did Lyr 3 do to Jotunheim...? Must be pretty gnarly since you left that out. o_O

I had Gen 1 as well. It was the worst DAC I have heard in many DAC/amp combo. I have High hope in the MB module though, look forward to more impressions.

My experience with the ECBA, some Woo amps and some hybrid amps is that, the output tube stage and tube rectification stage play a big part in 3D-ness. If u want holographic sound better opt for full tubes.

Although I‘ve no intention of upgrading from my MCTH + SDAC at the moment, what would be a better integrated unit - the Lyr 3 with MB module, the Soekris dac1541 or the Holo Audio Cyan? Headphones are the Audeze LCD-2.2F and the Focal Elex.

Furthermore, can the TS 6SN7 be used in the MCTH with an adapter? A Vali 2 user seemed to have done just that:

AFAIK you don't want to be putting 6SN7s with adapters in the MCTH. It might work, but it might not be ideal or could cause damage over time. I believe the MCTH is designed to tighter specifications towards the 6922 tube and equivalents. I could be wrong.

Probably won't get the plate voltage necessary for 6SN7s to sound good on the MCTH. Who knows, people swap shit, and think they get "bettar" sound (e.g. softer, more lush, etc.) when it's actually worse.

This is one of the most interesting comments in this thread to me. Comparing some of Lyr 3 abilities to Ragnarok impresses. Have you been able to compare the Lyr 3 to any well regarded $1500+ tube amps? Thanks. I may have to order one to replace the Vali 2 in my office stack.

Rag has good stage depth, but stage placement is upfront. With the right tube, the Lyr 3 can match Rag in front to back layering and separation. Neither Rag or Lyr 3 have excessively wide stages, which is what I prefer. I detest headstages which are excessively wide, i.e., wider than deep, but other people may like this.

I haven't compared anything directly, that will have to wait until a future meet. You're going to like this amp a lot more than your Vali 2.

I just got my Lyr3. It sounds much better out of my Sony MA900 than the HD6XX.

Does the multibit module require warm up? If so, how long does it generally take before it sounds optimal?

From what I've read this seems like a very nice amp, either on it's price point or purely performance wise.
I'm wondering if anyone could compare the Lyr3 to woo's WA6-SE.
The Woo is the best amp I ever owned, but this was a long time ago and I had to sell it, I wonder if the Lyr3 would be a better option to upgrade from my current Musical Fidelity M1-HPAp. I prefer a more warm sound.
Currently using LCD-X, but with the woo I had the HE-500 (I prefer the LCD-X).
