What's the state of bluetooth speakers these days? There have been so many new ones in the last couple years. Is the Riva Turbo S/X still a favourite around here? My requirements in this instance are not for utmost sound quality. Portability/durability and volume without being garbled rank higher.

Anyone here have experience with the JBL Flip 4? I'm only asking about this one specifically because there's a local seller with a pair of them and having multiple units for room filling might actually be more useful than trying to blast a single unit louder.

I have a couple of JBL extremes that my wife and I enjoy for casual listening. They get plenty loud and you can pair two together. Bass is a little to boomy for my liking but for simple stuff it's good. UE Boom 2s are also pretty solid for a smaller option.

For Bluetooth speakers, check out this Youtube channel. He does reviews with measurements and binaural sound samples. He also has a comparison tool to compare sound samples of any 2 speakers.

    https://www.youtube.com/user/clavinetjunkie/videos

He also had a website "oluvsgadgets" but he stopped updating that a while back.

I love my M-22 but realized my 89.5dB efficient speakers wake up a bit with more wattage. Any suggestions up to ~$5K (new or used) for something more powerful and isn’t a room heater? I’m trying to dial in this setup now, but I’m not yet familiar with what’s out there. Thanks!

advantech benchmark ahb2 is well recommended.. or that new cambridge edge series power amp might be good.. both use some weird non traditional non class ab design.. but not class d.. so I think they'd run cool.. I assume you want to avoid class d since you didn't mention it

Looking for some speaker recommendations. Have a budget around 5k

    Current setup

PS4/PC-> Schiit Eitr -> Yggdrasil -> Jotun Pre amp -> Focal Shape 50s

    Room is 12'x18'

Primary function is playing music off of Tidal, Movies, and games

Personally I am very happy with most of my set up but I was looking to upgrade from bookshelf to tower speakers and I have been eyeing the Focal Kanta 2, but they are out of my budget new and I'm having a hard time finding a piano black Focal Kanta used...

My questions break down to this:
    1. What would be a solid set of tower speakers that I could get for around 5k?
    1. I do have carpet but I don't have panels up. Should I spend this money on acoustic panels and a better source equipment?

ATC SCM19 or 40 for a tower. Stunning speakers.

Heard great things from friends about Dynaudios Special 40, really want to get my ears on that one.

You could always call up Selah audio and have them custom design you some towers

What are you planning to power them with? Not sure running a Jot as a preamp with such expensive speakers would do them justice...although I don’t have experience with it as a preamp, that’s obviously not it’s primary purpose. You may want to at least move to Saga for that.

Have you heard the Focals Kantas and like them? Whatever you do, do not buy new without the ability to audition thoroughly. And ideally, the ability to return them if they’re not your cup of tea. This is why I typically stick to the used market, to avoid massive losses in value if I don’t end up liking them in the end. However that can be a bit harder for towers since they’re so bulky and expensive to ship around.

Also unless you feel your room is very poor acoustically, I wouldn’t start worrying about panels and other treatments yet. The fact that it has carpet should help start you off ok.
