Is automatic sample rate switching between sources possible?

I use my Windows 10 pc to output audio via MusicBee (variable sample rates), online streaming (16/44) and Kodi (16/48). Is it possible for a DAC to switch itself to the correct bit depth/sample rate automatically based on source input?

MusicBee uses my audiophile 2496 ASIO driver to switch automatically but it leaves the sample rate at whatever it used last before I quit. So it is often wrong for e.g. Spotify and breaks Kodi altogether.

I think the answer is "no," based on the way Windows audio works.

Works fine for me, I mostly use WASAPI and avoid internal windows sample rate conversion. Generally I use JRiver to drive a Gungnir Multibit over Gen5 without any issues.

Also, "my audiophile 2496 ASIO driver", lolz.

Assuming you're using USB, and if it works with your DAC, you should ditch the ASIO driver for the W10 UAC2 driver and use WASAPI in MusicBee and Kodi. That will change the sample rate on the fly with out changing the default for standard Windows mixer so you can leave it on 16/44 for streaming/youtube/whatever.

The W10 UAC2 driver is kinda hit or miss though so you'll have to test and see if it will work with your DAC If your DAC has a non-ASIO driver it may work with WASAPI as well..

Just to close this out, I never was able to get WASAPI to change the sample rate in either Musicbee or Kodi, although M-Audio's ASIO driver did work for MB only (Kodi doesn't support ASIO).

I just went ahead and bought the Topping D10 which does everything I need: Kodi and MB use WASAPI and online streaming services use 24bit 44.1Khz Directsound as set in the WIndows control panel. Nice piece, that little Topping. Thanks for the feedback.
