My advice? Just back out of this thread slowly.

I'm sure I have an old version. It sounds great. Fight the nervosa! Fight it, I say!

Sagely advice. I ask as mine is fairly new. 2 months old I think? Got it shortly after the Lyr 3 came out. Mine sounds great, so I'm happy in that regard.

It just bugs the hell out of me when I don't know what I actually have after spending nearly $300.

Do you have a sound card or line in? Just run ARTA demo version. A few measurements should tell about dither or glitch.

Can you contact Schiit and give them your SN# to find out if you have the latest version?

If they haven't announced it, they're not going to be giving people who email them any more information.

Can't say i blame them for not announcing every minor update, they probably don't want everyone sending in their Mimbys to be upgraded.

As I recall, even caring enough to ask is some kind of deep-seated character flaw. Good luck.

I never heard the “old” Modi Multibit, but I can say that the Modi Multibit I just received from Schiit sounds quite good out of the box. Even straight USB. I’m definitely biased in favor of multibit DACs when compared to delta-sigma DACs, so keep that in mind, but it was a breath of fresh air as soon as I started using it. (I’ve been using DS DACs of various kinds for a few weeks.) Instrument timbre and separation finally make sense. The soundstage width and depth seemed less than I remembered compared to the Gungnir Multibit (A1) and there was a little artificial nature to high highs (possibly from USB) but it’s still leagues above your typical DS DAC to my ears. I can easily recommend this box to anyone who just wants to enjoy music. It’s simply fun to listen to multibit DACs, there’s an immersive factor I don’t get from DS. I’m going to compare it to the Yggdrasil A2 once I get it to see what you get for another $2200. I expect I’ll still be able to easily recommend the baby brother Modi Multibit though.

If I buy Modi Multibit now, is it certain that I get a new one? I was looking at various vintage multibit DACs but maybe that would be better way to go. I sold Modi Multibit a year ago because I needed a DAC with XLR out and a preamp. Now my setup changed and Modi Multibit would be perfect for my desk headphones setup.

Well, @schiit has not announced anything officially, so they aren't obligated to ship V2 firmware. So, no, it's not certain you would get it.

With that said, it appears the firmware is shipping now, and potentially has been on devices for months already. So, chances are good.

I will throw this in. I had a Modi MB for over a year, during my testing and review. I returned the loan and purchased a Modi Multibit. It was markedly different sounding. A friend heard it, and asked, what I had done to make the improvement. All I could say was that the external metal looked different, but something had been done to improve SQ.

I read on another forum that a quiet upgrade was done to the firmware. We can speculate if this was a "soft opening" of the Modi MB 3, or just a glitch-fixer. I know my Modi Multibit sounds better.

I had asked for a Bifrost MB to test and review, which seemed a problematic problem. They chose to send me a Gungnir MB instead, citing a short supply of Bifrost samples, and noting that the Modi MB and the Bifrost MB shared the same chipset.

The Gungnir MB is superior to my Modi MB, but one might have those expectations considering the $1,000 difference. The Gungnir Multibit shared the same chipset as Yggdrasil. I love the velvety tones of the Gungnir which seems effortless in decoding the Digital feed via SPDIF.

Oh gawd damn im just now finding this out after buying a Used Bifrost? Lol.. son of a bitch. First I bought the supposedly equal performing Multibit Module and got burned, and now find this wonderful piece of information. ffs

Well, i'll be damned if im buying an Eitr + Modi Multibit. If the Bifrost Multibit does not -significantly- outperform the multibit module I may just be done with Schiit dac's altogether. This is getting ridiculous.

I mean I realized Bifrost was a poor "value" but I figured it's performance should at least equal the entry level multibit product that's less then half the cost.

Hopefully the 2016 Bifrost I bought that was sent to schiit in 2018 for Gen5 had it's firmware flashed and no hardware changes were made to the "new" secret sauce rev 1.2.3.a.b.c

Yes, it has been said that Bifrost Multibit was equal to Modi Multibit. With Bifrost it is upgradeable DAC, upgradeable USB implementation, and a more robust power supply, which, to me, does help the analog sectuon and is slightly better SQ (more defined low end). Those features to me are worth value, but maybe not to you. So just remember, everyone has a different version of "value".

And on the revisions, yes, both have had very minor tweaks. Not nearly noticeable as most believe. It was so small a change, it was not significant unough to a) mention for Schiit, or b) call it a new 2 version. So, just drop it man. Every single post you mention these silent regions and how you don't like it. If you want the absolute latest, but new. You take a chance on any quality or condition on product anyway. Schiit at new prices is already an amazing value, and now you seem to want the latest at used prices. You can't have it both ways. Let's move on.

    My brain translated this as:

"I didn't do my product research, and instead of blaming myself, I'm going to pin it on Schiit, in a public forum, so that I feel better about making what I can only assume is a bad decision because I'm less of a person if I don't have the latest and greatest gear".

That may be unfair, but it's truly what I thought.
