Essentially discussing the fact that, after a certain point in life, you no longer learn anything from your successes. It's your failures that will help you to grow.

Lab write-ups. Highly recommended for insomnia. Otherwise try 2001 or War and Peace. |\/|

That was fantastic, thank you for recommending it.

For anyone else, if you like military sci-fi, this is only like an hour or two read and worth every second

Glad you like it. I'm hoping the author puts out a part 3 soon.

Reading this next to Tjechov's short stories. I saw this for a tenner at the train station. His short stories still get to me...

Reading "Psmith In The City" by P.G. Wodehouse. This author's dry and witty style of writing inspired many writers. Even Murakami referenced him several times. If you like a series like "Black Adder" and mix it with the nerdy wit of Q.I. and travel back to London about 1900-1910, well that results in this book. This is a hoot if you enjoy this particular nerdgasmic slice of British humour.

Was in the middle of reading book 2 of William Gibson's Bridge trilogy but then Snow Crash came off hold at the library so I stopped to read that.

2nd book in the Tales of the Ketty Jay series, sci-fi fantasy pirate adventures. Just finished the first book Retribution Falls and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. The writing got progressively better over the course of the first book and the characters became fairly well developed individuals. A dark world portrayed in a light hearted and humorous tone, easy reading, but quite fun.

Have a few other hobbies aside from audio stuff. One is cooking. Hence, re-reading parts of "On Food and Cooking" by Harold McGee. Highly recommended for those who want to get into the "technical" side of cooking a little more.

I'm a sci-fi nut. Currently reading Absolution Gap, the 3rd book in the Revelation Space series by Alastair Reynolds.

    I just finished Death’s End.

I didn’t really enjoy The Three Body Problem that much actually, it felt sort of contrived at a macro scale in a way other fiction I’ve read hasn’t. But I’m very happy I stuck with it because The Dark Forest was incredible and even Death’s End was very good.

    Thanks for suggesting it!

@Skyline Have you finished the Broken Earth series? Interested in your thoughts, I read it recently and was annoyed but not sure if it was just my personal prejudices.

I finished In the Eye of Heaven by David Keck the other day and am half way through the second part of the trilogy, In a Time of Treason. Malazan fans take note, the author is a friend and writing colleague of Erickson. This series has it's similarities but is less broad/dense and feels much more medieval. It makes me think of Sir Gawyn and The Green Knight. Not much internal dialogue, gods and spirits everywhere toying with humans. I'm enjoying it so far.

Please give me your fantasy or sci fi recommendations. I really only want to read complete or mostly complete series. My all-time favorite is Wheel of Time. Other favorites include Salvatore, Sanderson, Greenwood, Pratchett and Feist. I was not a big fan of Malazan, got to book 9 and couldn't force it any longer.

I'm looking for something that has strong character development and doesn't kill them off on a whim.

I also enjoy some sci fi like the Saga of Seven Suns, Ciaphas Cain, etc. as long as it's not all politics and giant space battles.

    Thanks!

I'm currently re-reading Feist, and after I finished the riftwar trilogy I just can't bring myself to keep going.
