TH909 was a bit disappointing for me since I was looking forward to the bass slam of the TH900, but I think some will prefer this one. What I heard was a more neutral sound: relatively calmed treble and dampened bass with slightly better imaging. Vocals were significantly more natural sounding and listening to jazz felt more like a live performance inside a jazz club. However perceived soundstage was a bit smaller and there was less sub-bass extension (although mid bass was a bit more prominent).
TLDR: I liked the Aeolus a bit better, but YMMV.

^Thanks for the impressions! Okay, so I've learned from experience that evaluating headphones (even closed backs) in noisy conditions gives you next to nothing on treble performance so I'm approaching this with some trepidation, but if these really do have less zing up top then I might consider these.

Or the Aeolus. That'd be grand. I'm just waiting for someone to do a 1v1 of the TH909 (or the new ZMF) and the Klipsch HP-3 so I can figure out if I need to shuffle things around, haha.

Reviving the thread because I heard some of these recently while I wasn't wowed by them in stock form, they sound like they could have some real potential modded. Or have we already found a "betterer" headphone that can achieve the same type of sound when modded or even stock?
