Hi, @Bina I don't know if this question has been asked before (and I just didn't find it on a search), but are there crystal XOs or an IC PLL clock generator on board the M0? Given the size of the device and its price point (as well as the lack of mention in marketing materials), I assume the latter. Not implying that IC clock generators are necessarily bad (some are quite good and not necessarily worse than discrete XOs).

@Bina - any resolution to the track order issue yet? I've had to stop using my m0, as it's too distracting when it happens.

(Yes, I am more of a "whole album" listener, who doesn't enjoy shuffle!)

This was bothering me quite a bit as well. In the meantime I've resorted to .cue sheets - not sure if that would be an option for you.

I was promised next firmware update during august.

Meanwhile it seems it's caused by disc number tag. If you delete this tag, song order went back to normal.

Yeah, I don't want to start deleting perfectly sensible metadata to work around firmware bugs on one device. Keep an eye out for the firmware from your devs and ping us here when it's ready as usual, please ;)

@Bina can we get an auto shut off timer feature added to this device? Let’s say if there’s no playback or buttons pressed for 30 or 60 minutes it turns off. Two or three times now I’ve gone to use the device (after I was pretty sure I turned it off, with a mostly full battery) and found the battery empty. I guess it turns on really easily in my pocket? But this is a problem.

It does have an auto off feature but I agree that it gets turned back on very easily in a bag.

Yeah, when I still used mine, I stopped zipping it into a rucksack pocket, and kept it in the small peli case that I normally use for IEMs, otherwise the battery was almost always flat when I came to use it. That does work well.

    Hi!

I just bought M0 audio player. This is very good DAP with great sound in such small package. But there are a few, important to me (I hope, to many other M0 users too) things which can be improved:

    1. Next and Previous track buttons could be at the same time as Fast Forward and Rewind buttons (i.e. after longer hold). The Youtube-like progress bar on second screen is very inaccurate (I listen long tracks and when I use this progress bar I usually can`t get the right track`s moment what I need). Dedicated buttons will be very helpful - as it is in DAPs with normal, hardware buttons.

    2. Second screen (with actual time, elapsed time and progress bar or buttons, what I wrote above) should be show immediately after volume button click - not as second screen, but first screen (user should be a choice in settings). For me, track time/elapsed time and forward/rewind are very important and useful. If these informations and controls will be displayed on screen as first would be great. The perfect first screen should contain: clock, volume level, battery indicator, track name, album name, rewind and fast forward buttons, play/pause button, progress bar, actual track time, elapsed track time, and track number (1/7, 1/5 etc. ), replay/shuffle and favorite buttons.

    3. Track names in the main screen - like in Rockbox, user should have a choice what will be display (real file name or track name from Id3 tag). Sometimes tag names are very strange and manual tag edit is time-consuming.

    4. Manual EQ - touchscreen is perfect for this feature :)

Beside these wishes, M0 is very nice player - really good job ;-)
Thank you and I will be happy if these small changes will be implemented in newest firmware version. Is only suggest, but I

Hi guys, new firmware got delayed, since software team was working on System in new M5s DAP. It was tested over holidays, needs to change few things, but it should be out this week.

New firmware for M0 will bring some fixes(like the wrong order of some album files), will add support of external playlists, add controls in BT receiver mode.

    Good morning everybody:

    Shanling M0, firmware 2.2 notes

    Download from Google drive
    ZIP // File itself

    Changes and fixes:

    1. Added Triple click shortcut, available in System settings
    2. Added playback controls when using M0 in Bluetooth receiver mode, including double and triple click shortcuts
    3. Added support of external m3u and m3u8 playlists
    4. Added “Recently added” list in “My Music”
    5. Fixed bug causing wrong song order in “My Music” browsing(the swithced 2/3.4/5.6/7 song)
    6. Improved USB digital output

    How to update:

    1. Make sure that M0 is fully charged.
    2. Unzip the file and copy “update.bin” file into root folder of micro SD card.
Note: If your M0 is on firmware 1.0 or 1.5, card must be formatted to FAT32. For update from firmware 2.0 and higher, you can use all cards.
    3. Choose “System Update”in system settings and follow the displayed instructions. Wait until system restarts.
    4. Check in settings “About M0” to be sure new firmware was installed.

If you will find any other bugs, please report them to me to have them fixed :)

I am gobsmacked at the sound quality available these days from something as small and inexpensive as the m0. Just listened to Stevie Wonder's Innervisions in 24/96 via my Comets and I must say, absolutely impressed with this little thing. For 310 bucks total (ok, the album was 20, but I imagine it would be just as good in 16/44, however I otherwise only have it on vinyl,) well, as I said, I am gobsmacked.

Maybe it was the bourbon, or the fact that I was listening while watching the Dodgers lose, but wow, sq per $ in a portable (ultra-portable would be fair, I think) would be hard to beat. I 've never been a big fan of spending cubic $ on portable solutions because the contexts in which I tend to listen to such a setup don't really lend themselves to critical listening anyway, what with the noise floor and the distractions, especially while riding a motorcycle, which is how I got started in "personal"audio. But even just sitting in my house watching a ballgame, this combo sounds awsome.

The dac chip is the ES 9218, and the player includes 7 or 8 different filter settings, although I pretty much put it on linear phase fast and left it there. Nice to have options though. The amp section is sufficient to drive my hp50s, k553s, and all of my iems with authority on low gain. My 300 ohm Senns are a bridge too far however, which is not unexpected. It does have a lo function, which I have used with my e12 and my Senns and it works fine, though I don't see using them portably so that probably matters not.

A few nits: while it works well as a dac for my pc, it only decodes up to 192 kHz sample rates for that usage, and won't decode dsd except as dop at 176khz. This is no problem at all for me, as luddite that I am, redbook is fine. Works well playing all (4) of my dsd albums just as a player though. The drivers to use it as a dac were a royal pita to get working though, which may very well have been an operator problem. Overall, at this price point and more importantly, form factor, pretty amazing really. The firmware (2.2) currently doesn't allow a custom eq setting, and the preset options all suck, so if that's important to you, maybe look elsewhere. I will keep my og x5 as the transport for my bedside setup (coax out to geek pulse) but the m0 is better in every way. $250 cheaper and about 1/6 the size. Time flies when you are having fun.

How clean is the USB out on this thing? I have been looking for a transport with a good clean digital output.

I've not used it. Are you hoping to use it on the go with an outboard dac?
