    Also,
you would think weapons with suppressors would be kind of a no brainer

Or bombs tied to like an alarm clock lol. I didn’t generally have a problem with suspension of disbelief while watching though as the monsters weren’t as much a focus as was the dread of the monsters. It wasn’t a fight against them, they’d already won, it was how to try to live in that world and how every facet of that family’s life was tied to the requirement to be silent.

I mean I don't know what degree of realism they are going for but finding a suppressor just randomly would be pretty difficult and they aren't terribly quiet anyway.

I feel like both Sicario movies, are movies which has both terrible scenes, but also some extremly good scenes.
Like the boarder crossing in Sicario 1... One of the best scenes ever, if u ask me.

And yes, I also agree with you. Those 3 are my favs too

Saw SICARIO 2 and was only moderately impressed (the ending left much to be desired). Didn't see the 1st one yet, though I will.

I'm from the school of thought that says you must watch anything Benacio del Toro or Josh Brolin are in. Examples: BdT in THE WOLFMAN; JB in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

I'm way behind on this thread...just reading this. THE DROP. This is really the only film I've seen where Hardy showed how good he can be as an actor. Part of the reason is the ensemble quality of the film (making Hardy, in effect, a character actor); the other part was that the plot called for him to be so hidden & covert until late in the film. I loved the slow, inevitable revelation of who he really was, what he was capable of. Very nice acting from Naomi Rapace, too.

The Venom would be a piece of shit without Hardy. He's amazing.

It's funny you mention that one. I'm on the fence about going to it. He's the only reason I would consider it. Still, the thought of that expressive face encased in CGI bullshit 1/3 the film is not encouraging.

Sorry to hog the thread, but I'm suddenly thinking about this stuff again. Just saw a film I never would've gone to on my own (my wife wanted to go): A STAR IS BORN. Of course I know the plot, also that Lady Gaga has an impressive voice & Bradley Cooper can be very good in some roles. I came away somewhat impressed. They were both pretty good, a big surprise in her case--her 1st movie! Liked the 1st song a lot. It completely established the "you gotta hear this girl sing!" vibe for the film.

If you hadn't already said it, I would've advised you not to sink that low. But now it's too late!

PS: Knowing what I know, I still wouldn't have gone to see it if not for subtle marital pressure. After all, there are no aliens, guns blood, explosions, car chases. What kind of a movie has none of those things?

Most movies Tom Hardy has been in would be shit without him. Inception being the possible exception.

A Star is Born was a bit strange for me, but mostly very positive.

I thought Bradley Cooper gave a standout performance, but I wasn't as awed by Lady Gaga (not referring to her vocals, which was pretty darn good) as many people have been. Though the chemistry between the both of them was undeniable and definitely elevated both of them.

I also felt that film was a little clumsy at times, mainly the first 10-15 minutes and about 2/3rds through the show.

That being said, there were moments/scenes that were truly outstanding. The most important thing being that by the end of the film, you feel so invested in the main characters and their relationship because of how authentic it seems, so the ending really hits hard.

Can't wait for First Man. Gonna catch it in IMAX on the first day it premiers. Everything Damien Chazelle touches seems to turn into gold.

I liked Dunkirk, which I don't think depended on Hardy.

Here's a change-of-pace thought, or maybe just a throwback. Anyone here into martial arts? I always have been, though not deep-dive stuff, searching out early Jackie Chan or Sonny Chiba flicks that are badly dubbed.

The most impressive martial arts work I've seen since Jet Li belongs to a Maylasian superstar who's not yet big here: Uko Uwais. His 1st big distribution film is also his best...THE RAID: REDEMPTION (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1899353/?ref_=nv_sr_1). That film blew my little mind. After seeing what this fellow can do physically, I can't take my eyes off him whenever he's onscreen.

So far he's appeared in just one Hollywood film that I'm aware of: MILE 22, which stars Mark Wahlberg in an especially annoying performance. Uko is not one of the main characters, but he's certainly pivotal. The whole film perks up when he does his "fight my way out of captivity" thing midway through.

He speaks English very well, can actually act rather well, and does martial arts on a level no one else is close to--so I'm not sure why he's not doing real box-office in US films. It was that way for Jet Li for a long time, too, though it changed later in his career (ie, KISS OF THE DRAGON + the EXPENDABLES franchise).

Speaking of KISS OF THE DRAGON, if anyone wonders whatever became of Bridget Fonda, this was one her last films. The role is purposefully degrading, but she does a splendid job w/it.

True that. The Raid: Redemption was awesome. Very underrated but highly entertaining. The same story was with Judge Dredd with Karl Urban. This one got everything and in my understanding flicks about comic heroes doesn't get much better than this. And still it was too niche, thus flew under the radar and highly likely we won't see continuation of it.

Far better than I initially thought it would be. There's something strangely cool about this one, even though it's quite predictable.

IDK what it is about this one. I definitely enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I went mostly because I like Gaga's voice (and of course the missus wanted to see it), but walked away fairly impressed by her acting ability.

Yeah the story was kind of inane and predictable, but I actually believed her pain & Bradly/Sam did a convincing job as well.

It could simply be going in not expecting much & being surprised is all, but WTF not bad.
