Oddly enough, there was one for sale locally here in Cincinnati as well.

My first post on this thread and here is my humble set up. Technics SL-120 with SME 3009 tonearm + Nagaoka MP110 Cart + Schiit Mani Phono. Currently spinning Midnight Special - The Incredible Jimmy Smith (Blue Note). Sounds so relaxing~~

I guess that this is the video version of the article. To save time and just see the tuntable, skip to 7:30 till 11:30.

It is out of most normal consumers' league but looks damn nice.

Another my humble turntable, Kenwood Trio KP700. Just been serviced and love the build quality and sound of the TT. I tried both AT150E and AT95E and both sounds really good with the TT but AT150e definitely better..

My Technics SL-1210GR w/Audio-Technica VM750SH cartridge. I run it through a PS Audio NPC, and from there it goes to either Gungnir Multibit or to my Onkyo TX-8555 integrated stereo amp.

A solid set-up, quiet, and dead nuts on with the speed/pitch. The turntable should last me decades, and when I get itchy, I can always try different carts.

EDIT: The stock mat is very thin - 2mm, IIRC. For a 17mm tall cartridge like my VM750SH, that threw the VTA off. I'm on the lowest VTA setting, and I was still "tail high." I picked up a Poly-Metal mat from KAB Electro Acoustics, and a deerskin mat from Jake's Turntable Mats (can be found on Amazon). That made everything just right for the VM750SH, but I'd still need to shim my Shure V15 Type III (15mm tall). Ortofon 2M Red is 18mm tall, so I'd need to adjust VTA on the TT. Just wanted to let everyone know there are some tweaks that may need to be made to the TT if you're fussy.

I finally got around to finishing this project the other day. Bought the table on Audiogon mid summer 2017. It's a magnetic direct drive plinthless Brinkmann. It came as a table, arm combo. I didn't like the arm (Origin Live) and ended up selling it later for almost as much as I'd paid for the combo. Then I found a used Kuzma arm deep in the bowels of Europe somewhere shady and damp. I talked the guy down below the US import tax limit. The problem now was the arm simply didn't fit the table. Multiple problems with the armboard and clearances. Not willing to throw in the towel, I decided to make it work. Well, fast forward a year and a half and several trips to a local machinist for armboard and chassis modifications, and here we are. I can't call it a labor of love at this point as it was an exercise in frustration, but all's well that ends well. I love how the platter just seems to float and the speed stability for the price... Great. How does it sound .... So far, so good.

Just bought a PLX-1000 as it was $300 off retail. Threw a Nagaoka MP-110 on it and I'm shocked at how good it sounds. It's way heavier than I thought and far better built than the likes of the LP-120. My arm bearings are a bit loose as is common but I'll sort that out. Speed is bang on 33.3 and stability is excellent. Better than any belt drive I've tested. I think as an entry level option this blows away the light weight Rega's and Pro-Ject's cheaper offerings. I've ordered a Jelco headshell and a better platter mat for it and hopefully that further improves things..

So this arrived the day before my birthday, after a few months of waiting. I've always really liked the idler drive tables I've heard and decided to put one foot in front of the other, sell the VPI, and talk to Steve Dobbins about getting a Garrard 301 going. His advice throughout was great, and his work is top notch. Has a recessed top plate, custom copper platter, stillpoints footers, and 2 armboard plinth painted metallic meteor gray that looks awesome under light. I ended up going with the Reed 3P -- super well designed arm -- and a van den Hul Crimson Stradivarius cartridge. The end result is a very dynamic sound, rock solid image with great separation and big open sound, and amazing texture and resolution. Hits hard, has a solid foundation, and is super engaging. I've been rediscovering my music ever since it arrived.

Had a super fun visit from @Wfojas to do some more fine tuning and listening, thx for the visit amigo!

If I was ever to buy a fancy turntable, which I won't, it would be something like this. And this is the most beautiful presentation of a Garrard deck imaginable. That paint finish on the deck and plinth... I just want to lick it!

@Thad E Ginathom must suppress inner feline to not lick. Hard to capture the finish, looks amazing IRL

@sfoclt Thx for the encouraging PMs leading up to finally pulling the trigger on this thing.
