While I'm a sucker for complications that's a bit too much information overload for my tastes, but if it floats your boat then you can't really go wrong with a Seiko (or a Citizen for that matter). My daily driver is a Citizen eco-drive that cost £65 new and has ticked without problem for over 13 years, and I'd imagine that Seiko are at least as good in the reliability stakes.

It kind of reminds me of a Navitimer. Without the Breitling price.

This interview made me an absolute fan. I know it is silly but I want more G-Shocks...

A pretty interesting watch, and the video has a neat little bit of watchmaker dickwaving history that can be summed up as

"Why? Because we can, and more importantly, our competitors can't."

I may be wrong, but a vintage Omega at $290 smells of fake to me, especially from eBay.

Going by the pictures to my very untrained eyes it looks like it could be the real deal, but then that's what fakes are supposed to do - fool the untrained eye.

I'd run it by the guys at watchuseek, specifically in this subforum - https://forums.watchuseek.com/f441/ which is dedicated to catching Omega fakes.

I do hope I'm wrong and that you catch a bargain.

The movement does not look clean at all- are those scratches just next to the serial number, and it looks like an actual crack in the screw hole between the S/N and the movement number (420)? That grungy stuff inside the o-ring on the back cover, and the generally pitted looking o-ring makes me wonder what "serviced" means.

    Overall, this doesn't look compelling.

It was the ordinary man's watch back in the day when all watches were clockwork because the electronic stuff did not yet exist. Well, I suppose there must have been numerous low-cost options, but the one that still sticks in memory is Timex. I don't suppose they still make mechanical watches?

A simple but very effective UK advertising slogan, from way back then, coined by the father of school friend of mine, "Tick-a-tock Timex" (or something very close) helped to lock it into brain cells of an impressionable age.

For sure, Rolex and Omega are not the end all be all! Although I have/had a couple of Omegas and Rolexes I've found there are definitely plenty of watches to be appreciated outside of them. Like this lovely Vulcain Cricket I caved in and bought after much thought and consternation...

Crickets have a history of being gifted to each US president. They're really cool because they're essentially the first mechanical alarm watch. As if I didn't need another alarm!

Also, I have to say, if anyone has any questions about vintage Omegas, if I may direct your attention to Omegaforums instead of watchuseek. There are some vets on WUS as well, but most vets have moved onto OF.

Hey remember the gold-tone steel with bracelet G-Shock? I think @zerodeefex bought one. Super badass.

Well, for the 35th anniversary of the G-Shock, they did something a little bonkers.

An actual 18k yellow gold G-Shock, limited to 35 watches.

    $70,000

70k is double the price of a yellow gold Rolex Day-date. Not that it matters in bonkersland, just sayin'. It'll sell out for sure. I like that there are people who are that into G-shocks. It makes any other hobby you may have look almost sane.

    Have a good day!

In fifty years time, @spwath's grandson will pick one up off e-bay for $15, from someone who has no idea that it is not just another old Casio!

I guess my plans to drop out of college and use that money to buy that watch are cancelled then...

There are items where the cost defies any sense of logic or taste regardless of however much income or wealth one has. This is one of those items. So, if you'll allow me, I've tentatively corrected that for you ;)
