Been so into whiskey and bourbon recently that I forgot I had these two things. Both are 5 years old gathering dust. Both super remarkable glad I found them.

Also this from 2015. Smooth and less bourbon casky than when I had it in 2015. Still super satisfying. Three big beers deep tonight cause f**k it it's the Sunday night blues.

    P.s. I am sharing btw

Attention Albertans: this one's from Cabin Brewing in Calgary. All a bit hipster, but for an IPA this is how I like it: fruity and hoppy without being stupidly bitter just for the sake of it. Unnecessarily alcoholic at 6.7%, but what the hell it's Saturday night...

Looks good, although I don't usually pair my IPAs with fruit salad (yummy, yummy)...

And 6.7% "unnecessarily alcoholic"? I prefer IPAs (or actually DIPAs/IIPAs) that are 10%+! One of my favorites is actually 18% (although it's more of a barley wine). :drunk:

Fruit salad, and Mrsdegraded's banana & blueberry pancakes.

18%?? You, sir, are a lush!

    Sometimes, yeah, that's true.

And pancakes? 100%! I make pancakes, waffles or french toast from scratch for the family as dinner almost every Sunday night, and the trusty IPA always washes them down.

Finally, the 18% IPA (120 Minute by Dogfish Head - https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/64/9086/) is a once in a while splurge, as it's hard to find and definitively has a kick! It actually ages really well and I have some that has been sitting for ~5 years.

    Cheers!

I’m a double IPA guy. It seems like the alcohol sweet spot for me is in that 6.5 -8.5% range. I can get the Dogfish Head IPA at one place in town but I think it’s the 90 minute version. Iowa has some stupid law that says you can’t call it beer and sell it in stores after a certain alcohol point. I think it’s around 8.5-9%, (But brew pubs can serve their own high alc beers at their pub) So unfortunately I won’t be trying any DH 120 minute unless I travel.

But we’ve come a long way since the 80’s where 3.2% was the max. I remember having to run to Wisconsin to get 5% beer.

picked up some fun ones this afternoon:

Oskar Blues Guns 'n Rosé - holy shit, summer day, over ice, I'm not kidding. Embrace your Lexus-driving soccer mom shit cause this is the tits. Go mow your lawn and tell me this isn't the f'ing bomb.

Founders CBS. Pouring later tonight. I've got a "vintage" KBS that it'll be fun to compare with...

some other stuff I'm forgetting like a Kreik from Portland (OR) and a couple NE style IPAs.

Pancakes tonight, family recipe from 1937. I like my pancakes plain, the rest of the crew goes for the chocolate chip variant. Paired tonight for me with Bell's Hopslam, one of my all-time favorite IPAs (and per my prior note it has an ABV of 10%). Released only once a year from my friends in Kalamazoo, and always grab a case or two when it comes to town in late January/early February.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/287/17112/

Was out of town traveling the week before last and that was the week that Hopslam came to Philly - doh! Thought I'd missed it altogether, but then found a beer warehouse that is not as snobby and they had a few cases left - whew! If you haven't tried it, I'd highly suggest giving it a go. Good stuff.

    Cheers

Note to beer drinking public: I'm locking this thread for days if a stream of "IPA" posts continues.

hopheads and bearded hip brewers have burned out the tired and lazy recipe of IPA brews with no layering or complexity.

ps. Gulden Draak for the win.

You really need to try some IPAs from outside CO. I would look for anything by Dogfish Head. They make “off-centered ales for off-centered people”

I like these a lot, but the availability in Ganjarado might be limited to 60-minute or 90-minute IPA. Please don’t mess with 120-minute.

Exactly. There's tons of crap IPAs out there, heck most of them are crap! Seems like you have to make an IPA to be called a brewery these days. @jexby we've met in person before and if you remember I'm the furthest thing from a bearded hipster there is (for one thing I can't stand srirach!). Dogfish Head is excellent, as are many other crafts that know what the hell they're doing. Lately I'm into the unfiltered NE IPAs. I'm also a big fan of the stronger Belgians, e.g. La Chouffe, Rochefort 10, Abt 12 - haven't yet found a source for Westvleteren!). Enjoy

You guys just reminded me there's a Belgian trappist monastery in Rome (look it up) and they sell their beer online.

ah Tre Fontane Abbey. haven't tried them, but also don't hold out hope on these "remote" Trappist members.
the St. Joseph's Abbey beer (Spencer) in USA simply sucks.
