Skyrim was great. I would have prefered higher difficulty, but still great. Bethesda effing up TES:6 would be an irrecoverable loss for the company. Fundamentally messing with the title that made them.

I love Fallout and Skyrim. The levels of difficulty make them perfect for casual gamers or more serious gamers. Over the past 15 years, I've gradually toned things down from being relatively serious to being much more towards the casual end of the gamer spectrum.

I also really loved Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3, but didn't bother with Andromeda (or whatever it was called) because it was so roundly criticized. Dragon Age series is another fun one, but still not as enjoyable as Fallout or Skyrim for my tastes.

I also like the Civilization franchise and recently purchased the latest expansion for Civilization VI. I try to ignore their increasing political correctness, though.

Fallout 2 and BG2 were so good for their time! Epic times. Then came Neverwinter Nights 1. 3D story with believable roots in the Bioware D&D based universe. A worthy successor to BG2 with a different feel.

Damn.. I remember back these days you felt danger in the game. When you got powerful Items, It meant something. It wasn't just item nr23542354 generated with 2354 algorithm. That said, I don't mind the system that D1 and Borderlands 1 implemented.

The great thing about Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3, New Vegas and Fallout 4 was that you could mod them very easily to make the game you wanted to play. Don't like having to worry about carrying too many soul stones, potions, or herbs? Make them all weigh nothing. Personally I wouldn't do this, but you could just give yourself infinite carry capacity. Tired of all the original quests? There's tons more from mods! With the creation kit the possibilities were literally endless.

This is (one of the many reasons) why Fallout 76 sucks so hard. Bethesda was never the best at balancing their games, but mods made it easy to tweak to your liking. You can't (without getting banned) mod 76. They need to make a single player version that you can freely mod, or the game will die.

Fallout series critical hit looks like this. Compare this to Fortnite and toy guns

I think the root of problems is that the business side of game developing companies are making more game type decisions, than software nerd type developers.

    - We need a battle Royal game! We need an open world game! Put loot boxes and micro-transactions with a extremely slow progression! Multiplayer is cheaper than single player campaign. Don't take risks! Use the engine and assets from the last three games... new is expensive and risky!

I believe this is one of the reasons why the indie games are doing so well these days.

I have an idea. Let's create a video game with some open source / freely distributed engine. :D

@luckybaer I think perhaps Andromeda is a little bit overly criticized. It's a pretty uneven game in that it has some pretty low lows but also some pretty good highs. I also think some of the weaker material is towards the beginning and that it gets a little bit more fleshed out and even handed towards the end. From what I've understood there was a lot of internal strife during development and various different teams not quite gelling.

I think though for anyone who is a Mass Effect fan it's still very much worth a play-through, and if you're sci-fi fan I think so too. It's not groundbreaking storywise but it's nice enough and offers stunning panoramas in some places, I had quite a bit of fun just exploring the various planets in the Nomad for instance.

If I was going to give it a fair score it'd probably say 7.5/10, maybe even 8/10 if I'm feeling generous. I think if you accept that it's a "good" game, and not a "epic" game, going in you can have quite a bit of fun with it. Some missions and planets I think were every bit as good as the original trilogy, but then other were less stellar. So it's a bit uneven but overall still interesting.

Does it live up to the BioWare and Mass Effect name in terms of story telling? No. But if it had been launched by another studio under a different name I think most people would be rather impressed and call it a solid game overall.

I'll bet I can get it inexpensively now, and most bugs should have been fixed. When I get bored with what I have (I'm actually inspired to run through Fallout 4 again. That never gets old!), I may give it a go.

I'll second that - one of the indie games that I've had immense fun with over the last year is Ravenfield. The graphics are deliberately bad, but the gameplay is awesome. It's still in early access on steam, and I've my doubts that it will ever come out of early access, but I don't care as I've already had way more than my moneys worth - especially when you consider that this has an incredible amount of workshop support already.

Oh and did I mention you get drive tanks and fly helicopters (if you can)

Money probably, but in recent years more than ever it seems. Lootboxes and downgraded gfx in final versions got us to the point where it became very obvious. After seeing what happens in Blizzard and where their and Activision's focus is... nuff said.

They are thumbing down the average gamer in the process. People get used to the normal, but also bored.

What happens when everybody jumps the ship at some point? I personally dislike the genre of game that just played for it being the norm and the community of 10 million people govern the outcome of the game.

Smaller companies have powerful tools now to create content with a fraction of the resources of the big cats. Not saying it is easy or anything.

True that. But to be fair, as gamers we also got more and more demanding over the years, haven't we?

I am a disagreeable person so... No!

This is like saying technology is so advanced and complex and so on. This is no excuse imo.

I am not forcing any opinions or anything... If someone said that gamers are whiny bitches, then i would have to agree.

Who of you is excited for the next From Software project? Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice.
Since it doesn't have multiplayer I will buy it on the PC. Normally I'd get it for the PS4 because player counts are usually much higher. Plus side of the PC version is 60fps.

    Look at those gifs:

I'm using an Xbox Elite Controller. I love the paddles especially because I hate clicking the sticks and it looks great in white.
