The only reason I have watched the Ep 1 from the prequels is to see Darth Maul kick Kwai-Chong-Kin (i.e. Kwai Chang Caine) self-righteous ass. I have the movie, but youtube has the exact 5:00 min version and saves me the trouble of FFW/REW.

For me, the sequels are indeed a poor parody of the original trilogy (because it's more exasperating than funny). And while I haven't watched these in a long time (I think Netflix has them and I have not cared), I can see myself watching more than 5:00 min of it and using the FFW/REW instead of going straight youtube on this. It's bad, but not prequels bad.

ST did not suck to appease cross-marketing and merchandising. It just did. Marketing and merchandising obviously took priority over story. The execs wanted to sell toys and action video games, and so more enphasis was placed on extensive action scenes at the expense of character development and back story. I could not care less if Pervy-Luke drank "milk" right of a walrus dick. But that could have made a story for selling protein packed purple semen Keto diet drinks.

All that said, I still felt the sequels were better than the prequels. Blah-Blah-Binks, the South/Cotton Trade Confederation robots, General Dick Lee, Vice-Shit-Face Gunray, Insect Rando Commander, Fat Jar-Jar Big Boss Aquaman, Ana-Sobbing-kin, Princess Cheesydalla and so on where just too much, too often.

As far as Thrawn, I have only read one SW book ever. And it was about Thrawn. Thrawn is OK. Maybe good material for another Star Trek movie. Vader on the OT is in a whole new leage of it's own.

And f**k the expanded universe. I only care about the OT universe.

BTW, I'm on epsiode 400 in Naruto Shipudden. So awesome.

Since the last time I posted in here, I’ve watched TLJ at least a dozen times. It has become my favorite Star Wars film, which means it’s one of my favorite films of all time. I am beyond impressed at Rian Johnson’s storytelling in the movie. It’s spectacular.

I'm currently taking a storyboarding class in LA (Pasadena) taught by a guy named Jay Oliva. His credits include Directing 2D animated versions of The Dark Knight Returns Pts 1&2, among other Batman/DC 2D films as well as working on Features like Wonder Woman, Ant Man, Dr. Strange, Deadpool, SpiderMan Homecoming, 300 and he was the first guy hired on to Thor Ragnarok by Taika Waititi and boarded much of that movie. He's also worked on Justice League and Superman V Batman (he didn't write them) and has told me stories, when asked during the class breaks, about sitting at Zach Snyder's house, or Ben Affleck's and chatting about directing.

The class is much more of a film study class than it is a drawing class, with breakdowns of camera moves, acting, choreography, composition, story, etc etc etc...

The man can not get through a class without shitting on TLJ at least 3 times as an example of absolutely horrible film making.

    I smile every time.

I think the biggest sin of the sequels is that we never got to see the trio (Luke, Leia and Han) on screen together again. That is such a tragic and obvious misstep I'm stunned nobody at Disney forced them to do it. It's the most obvious move even for generic nostalgia reasons.

    Unforgivable IMO.

I suspect people unhappy with TLJ will not be any happier with Episode IX.

Abrams may actually make a decent film. But for me the trilogy is already ruined. They didnt establish any kind of arc or progression. Abrams made a love letter to the old films, Johnson made a weird, disjointed mess... a trilogy is supposed to feel consistent in some way. Rey was overpowered from the beginning and stayed that way. Where's the tension? She is already overpowered so I don't care what happens. They apparently tossed Lucas' original story outlines and just made shit up as they went and it shows.

It'll be the first Star Wars movie that I don't see at the theater. I'm still kicking myself over having gone to see Solo.

Until they have someone writing/directing these movies who has actually seen the Original Trilogy and gets why those movies are as iconic as they are to so many of us... until then Lucas Film won't get my money.

I hope you find something new to enjoy if Star Wars is making you feel that way.

Thank You. I've enjoyed most of the Avengers/Marvel movies. Not always epic films and never quite as impactful on a grown man as Star Wars was when I was 6, but they seem to be my new go to for something to eat popcorn to.

Plus, unlike when I was 6, I can get laid now... so there are alternatives.

Nah. JJ will at least make an entertaining movie, even if it is hampered by what came before. This trilogy doesn't have any central vision, and will eventually be forgotten. GOTG had more of the spirit of Star Wars than anything in recent memory for me.

The Last Jedi would have been a vastly better story if they had just adapted some story lines from the expanded universe though. You might like this list: https://screenrant.com/star-wars-best-legends-stories-expanded-universe-not-canon/

Or not. But I can tell you first hand that there are stories in there which are IMHO far superior to what is currently in either the prequels or the sequels. As far as the current films go though I agree with you, OT is the only series which has the magic in it.

Other than Vader's cheesy line and the unnecessary CGI Tarkin and Leia, I felt like Rogue One was a very worthy Star Wars movie.

Agreed. I can forgive one cheesy line for arguably the scariest depiction of Vader's cruelty.

Indeed. Best part of Rogue One for me was Vader's 2:25 min of Rebel attitude adjustment.

    Neatly and concisely summarized here:

For me I felt like Rouge One started out really promising but then it kind of went overboard with the CGI and transformed into a pretty generic space flick with what felt like a very forced ending. Sure, I understand why the ending has to be that way but still. It somehow felt forced into that ending direction and not like a natural conclusion. I'll give it 7/10, it was ok but I'm not particularity keen on re-watching it myself. If others love it that's perfectly fine of course.

Eeeh. I remember being kinda disappointed with the force awakens. Amazing trailer, amazing start of the film... and then it's a new hope copy. Almost entirelly. This film was the first one that invalidated everything that was done in originals. Nothing changed, nothing they did had any effect, nay, one might say, it's potentially worse in some respects. But whatever. I was really really happy for the last jedi. I wanted it to be good. I wanted to enjoy that movie. Many, many people felt the same way I'm sure. I was so excited. And during the middle of casino scene I was considering walking out of the theatre, it was that boring/stupid. And gets just worse progressively. One good thing was rey/kylo bond dynamic and they ruin that too.
Some folks who enjoyed it - good for you! For me personally, that movie was a nail in the coffin. I'll watch sw ep9 due to being a completionist. It's still not too late to fix everything, but I'm sure they won't. It's interesting that they managed to actually lose money on solo. That film was kinda bad but ways waaaays better than last jedi.

Rogue one was the best star wars movie made after prequels for me too. This scene owns it.

That scene would have been significantly better if Leia hadn't turned around, but otherwise, I'm basically a 6 year old again when I watch that.

That Vader hallway scene is just fan service. I think Rogue One is by far the most disappointing movie of the Disney era so far.
