Looking for a 4.4mm female > 3.5mm male 3-pole adapter, full copper wiring (no SPC). Not looking to spend a lot (in case anyone hasn't figured out I'm cheap ass). The usual Chifi suspects came up in searches.
I've heard the FiiOs are well made, but don't care much for the looks. The GU looks pretty decent from the description, but I've been burned before by Chifi stuff. The "gold" plating on an XLR to 1/4" adapter I have is flaking off.

    Any comments or suggestions?

    Edit: there's this Tai-fi one too: https://goods.ruten.com.tw/item/show?21909011432024 - found out it's SPC.

JBL Duet computer speakers are available at Ebay US for around 25$ used. IMHO better than the cheap Logitech stuff and quite good looking.

I am looking for a streamer. Will be placed in the following setup: Massdrop Airist R-2R -> Rega Elex-R -> Dynaudio Focus 110.

So, looking for a simple device with a digital output (coaxial or toslink). Not willing to spend more than 500€. What should I buy? Will be playing music from Tidal. Good Android app is a must. They sell Sonos (Connect) and Bluesound (Node 2i) in almost every place, but are they worth the money?

Hello! I've put a new tube today to my project Horizon, the tube is Mullard 12AU7. I hear some periodic noise in my left channel and sometimes in the right channel of my headphones. The noise is like crinkle or crackling. I haven't experienced that noise with 12AT7 tubes so I'm just wondering what the problem could be and what I could possibly check. A faulty tube? Or is it because the tube is a low gain tube? Thank you.

Cambridge Soundworks PCWorks. Tiny little 2.1 system from 30 years ago that still kicks reasonable butt today, and should be easy enough to find on ebay. Heck, I still have the slightly bigger version hooked up to my computer, despite all my other hifi junk sitting around.

Barely. In a pinch it will do, but not for everyday and be happy with it.

Works just fine for my HD650s, sold my Jotunheim/ModiMultibit/Eitr stack and don't miss it. It even drives my 600ohm k240s, although the pot is at 2-3 o'clock compared to 8-9 with hd650.

What headphones sound the most like Magnepan speakers? (Audeze excepted, I won't buy their products.)

Found a couple posts from @purr1n, but wondering what current consensus is.

Currently run Magnepan 1.6QR off of my Yggdrasil Analog 2 and Ragnarok 1.5. It's a bit jarring to switch from the speakers to the Utopia for quiet listening as they sound so different. I also don't really like how the Utopia does for TV/Netflix/movies either, but love how the Maggies sound on the same (except the lack of low bass and kick).

I want my desk back and am looking to put my Ragnarok 1 (first batch) into my stereo cabinet where Yggdrassil presently resides. Ragnarok started there, got too hot, and moved to my desk. Yggdrasil will be fine on a shorter, lower shelf (been there before). I'm looking for a cooling solution for the Ragnarok.

There's about 4" free in the back, 1.5" on either side, and 2" on the top. The cabinet is 3/4" oak.

I built this cabinet with my dad 30 years ago, he's not around, replacing it isn't an option.

    Suggestions?

One or two USB powered fans in the back? Try and find a quieter one so it's not intrusive.

I don't think Pentaconn makes a female cable jack, so everything is going to be some level of Chifi at this point. I don't know how to sort through the various makers since everyone cross sells or clones stuff on Aliexpress. If that is genuine Fiio, they have at least established a rep of decent quality.

Maybe this. Sit it on top of the DAC. Sucks up air from underneath, throws it out the front.

Not cheap by any means, you could rig something up out of a couple of USB powered fans for almost nothing, but it looks nice and has speed control.

Caveat- have I have something made by this company. Fans are not silent at medium or high, low is fine for me. But replacing them Noctuas would probably help.

At the moment I have a Cord 2Qute DAC. There is a new version called the Qutest. This is for my computer HiRez system. The new DAC needs to be able to do all DSD and MQA At the moment it sounds quite nice using a Cavalli LC v2. I am considering just moving up to the new Qutest, but hate to have missed a better DAC for $3000 and below.

Why not move this to the All Purpose Advice Thread? Also, it looks like you have a Yggdrasil A2? Explain what you feel like you’re missing with it. It’s going to be hard to top that outright, as @Torq has shown.

Thanks, I had no idea that something like that existed. Poking around the website, I'm going to try this: https://www.acinfinity.com/componen...usb-cooling-blower-120mm/#product-description

I suspect low will work just fine and I have some very quiet fans laying around from my last PC build.

A standard blower might work. You have to be careful though, blower designs tend to suck in air from a very small central area, whereas the more common axial fans will suck air from its entire area. You'd probably have to use multiple blowers, and they are inherently noisier than axial fans. Or if the blower was set up to introduce airflow to the general area, rather than trying to suck heat out from the top... that might work.
