RopieeeXL has an AirPlay renderer too. Convenient for when I want to use my headphone system as output for this Macbook (not for quality listening).

@earnmyturns why would Airplay not be suitable for quality listening, when the stream is in lossless red book format?

I never tried, so I don't know. Only reason to use it for me is when I need to stream something from the laptop, which is not often.

Try it for @shotgunshane. He's heavy into Airplay.

I'd appreciate it if someone could give it a shot and share impressions.

I can confirm it works fine as an AirPlay endpoint (assuming you have Volumio installed on the Pi). As far as being equal to some other alternative musical path than through the iPhone, I can’t say. I generally only use it when streaming movies and watching YouTube.

It's fine in that case ofc, most of the stuff on my playlist is recent electronic and mastered in 48 or 96.

Volumio acts as an AirPlay renderer, so for now I am using Volumio - somehow I prefer UI of Volumio to moOde. Still more experience is needed, but so far I am very impressed with how easy is it to build / integrate rPI based player (compared to compiling sunOS or early linux kernels.. ).

@kleks is it possible to disregard the UI of Volumio entirely, only sending it AirPlay streams from your Mac?

I haven't used Volumio for a while, but I know you can set up Ropiee to be an Airplay endpoint. All the RPis use the open source software Shairport which implements an Airplay compatible protocol. It's not perfect as I do have the occasional issue of having it losing the connection and I have to reconnect it again on the mac/iphone.

I've used it to play AirPlay streams from my iPhone, so I'm assuming yes. It shows up as a speaker in the AirPlay UI with the same name as you give it when you configure Volumio.

For those who were finding their RCA cables not making good contact with the S/PDIF connector because of the case reducing contact depth, I was having the same issue and the cable kept pulling off.

I was able to use a step drill bit to open up the RCA connector hole in the case back just a little bit and now the Canare RCA connector on my Bluejeans coax cable is making good contact. It's a delicate operation, but I went slow both in my pace and with the drill speed, and was able to make a good opening.

Very sorry about that. What diameter did you end up with?

We can certainly make a change before the next run of cases, but we literally just had 100 sets delivered yesterday! I do however, greatly appreciate you posting here so people know what they can do if they find their cable doesn’t fit.

Looks like I got to 7/16" based on the dust in the drill :)

I'm not sure every connector has this problem, but the Canare RCAP ones are a little bulky.

Can you send me a link to the part? I’ll see what it needs.

OK, I can see why those are troublesome. A typical RCA plug is approximately 9 mm in diameter. The ones you are using are 12 mm! Unfortunately that is just such a large size that increasing the hole to accommodate it doesn’t make enough sense. In addition that would bring the hole very close to the edge of the panel and make it much more susceptible to cracking. I am afraid this is one instance where those cables are just gonna have to be the outliers

    Sorry dude! :(

Ugh tell me about it, I'm having pain with these cables and my phono for the same reason.

No worries. The hole is close to the edge but there's still about 3mm of material there. I Knew I was taking a risk and was prepared to buy a new case if I screwed up.
