    Hello friends,
Just ordered the above set of headphones.
I am about to use it for mixing with Sonarworks/ Morphit and thought to apply only the Dynamat mod in order to leave the sound the same but with more precise, and tight bass and with better impact dynamic wise.

Anybody expreienced with any kind of mod while using Sonarworks/ Morphit?
Will modding it (in general and specifically Dynamat mod) clash with the calibration and be a bad idea?

    Thanks alot,
    Itamar.

I use my HD650 with the Kiss mod and Sonarworks. The only mod that I don't do is the coin mod, cutting out a coin-size piece of the foam. If you only do mass loading and spider cage removal, there is no problem using it with Sonarworks. Sounds mighty fine.

Do note that these kind of questions should go to general advice thread

If everyone starts making a thread for one of their personal questions, that clutters up the forum like crazy..

Alright sorry, this is my first post here.
Thank you very much and I will post over there for more opinions.
Also, do you think/feel the mods were a good idea and made things better even when using the sonarworks? (especially the mass loading)

    Simply: yes.

    Thank you very much.
I was afraid doing so because after asking Sonarworks the same thing they said not to do that because it will make the calibration useless. Why would they say it? I also thought it will be logical to still do the mass loading mod

Not to elaborate much longer, but the mass loading mostly impacts the sub-bass and bass distortion. The sub-bass can take a great boost, the HD650 has a big roll-off as you may know... The distortion performance is not something Sonarworks will do anything for.

Just don't do any foam mods and you're fine. Like I said, I use Sonarworks myself with modded HD650.

    Thanks for your answer again.

Regardless of your recommendation regarding foams, i understand you did take the rear one out.
    It's also not recommended?
Also, did you change the foam with something else or left it open?

My last question for you is (forgive me for the bit of off topic) - I actually ordered the mod kit from second skin, which is more absorbing than Dynamat as I know. Does it also needs the additional adhesive foam on top of it? (I actually saw many people not putting it)

Thanks in advance, you helped me alot :)

Thanks mate! I see it's folded in half so it has double the thickness. Do you know about any successful attempts to just add another layer instead of taking the spider out and folding the foam in half?

You can't properly do the mod if you want to keep the spider cage.

Why don't you just use Sonarworks unmodded..?

I can, but the extanded bass (and flatter hi bass also?), less distortion, more definition and clarity, and more impactful dynamics are all characteristics that can benefit the HD650 from what i heared trying them.

I see without the cage mod you can still put the Dynamat in all places beside the magnet itself. Is it a very critical spot and the headphones will not be affected significantly without it?

You will have the full effect by applying all the dampening. But I mean, if you are worried just skip that step.
I skipped the coin mod myself (I like the foam). You can skip whatever you want if you're not keen on it.
