Never used it, so can't recommend it. Might be fine.

Or we might do something like that. I know Dave did some insane speed control with 24-bit AC synthesis, Class A output and 1/10000 Hz adjustment, but that was wayyyyyyyy toooooo crazzeeeeeee for a production product. A simpler one, maybe.

Thank you and simpler one sounds awesome. I am sure many people look for better power supply and speed control later on this could kill two birds in one shot.

I bit the bullet and ordered a Sol with an extra tone arm.

I’m looking forward to going through the setup and trying a couple of cartridges. One using the Mani in MC mode with a Denon 103R. The other will be a Haglabs Bugle Elite in MM mode with either a Audio Technica or Nagaoka still to be defined. I’ve enjoyed the Audio Technica 95E on my entry level UTurn.

@schiit Hi Jason, I note a dust cover is not included. Is there a recommended aftermarket cover that fits the Sol to consider?

Gotta say I’m really stoked about this purchase. I’ve been following the Sol discussion for quite a while.

The way I’m going, I’ll soon have enough gear for my own Schiiter-North.

Schiit SOL was exhibited on Rocky Mountain Festival this year and here is the video recorded by Analog Planet.
Skip to 30:50 to watch SOL (30:50~33:00). Not sure why any rep from Schiit spoke to Michael Fremer to properly introduce SOL and explain more.

Not related to SOL but Elac's new bookshelf speaker and amp looks very good (skip to 38:55~40:20)
And, Technics SL 1500c looks very promising, too. (40:20~end)

@ Jason Stoddard: Why don't you guys make a frequency (PLL?) controlled osclillator AC power supply?
That way you can control the speed of the AC synchronous motor to perfection.
A frequency controlled power supply is not that difficult to produce and you could still use the 60Hz motor. The wall wart could even be DC .

You addressed him wrong. Check above his response and see what's his user ID is. He uses "schiit" as his username, I believe. There is no Jason Stoddard as username in this forum.

I was at RMAF and those Elacs sounded good regardless of the price. Could hardly believe it. Highly recommended them if you are looking $1k or less. The Schiit/Salk room sounded terrific. Both the Bifrost 2 and SOL. I know there is much to learn about SOL but I can tell you that it delivered the sonic goods in that listening room. It also sounded good at the headphone table.

Keep in mind that I did not think the Schiit/Salk room sounded good at RMAF year before last. Last year the Schiit/Salk room sounded better but the prototype Aegir kept kicking out. This year was home run sound for the Schiit/Salk room IMO. Competed with mega buck rooms.

@schiit I just noticed that the motor and plinth are different colors. Any particular reason behind this and may there be an option in the future to have them the same color?

Hello, I was drawn here by the Shiit Sol turntable thread. I have a life long interest in music and HiFi stereo, have built or heavily modified four amplifiers and one vintage turntable. I have two headphones. A Grado and an Audio Technica. I'm looking forward to quietly exploring this forum.
    Thank you

Unexpected package from Schiit today! A little shocked this came in today, given everything that's going on in the world at this moment. Guessing this is all the stuff to bring us up to the production Sol that's shipping now.

Rubber pad, I'm assuming for the motor pod? Visually similar to the padding on the v2 bottom I installed previously, except that that one was already attached to a baseplate. Seems about the same thickness, though I haven't broken out the calipers. Potentially more grippy?

Space Lube! I'm gonna need some further instructions on how to apply this-- where & how much?

A cork & rubber slipmat. Tremendously better than the felt mat Sol originally shipped with.

(Small text for an aside: Unsure if I like it more than the transparent acrylic mat I've been using. Practically speaking, there's noticeably less slip with the cork & records stick more. This is nice when I'm playing records that aren't as flat as they ought to be. Aesthetically, less shiny aluminum on display. Will take some more time to figure out if i'm hearing major differences, but first impression gut feel is acrylic had a lower noise floor.)

I'm a big fan of cork/rubber mats, specifically Merrill's Gemdandy mat which I use on suspended (HK T60) and non-suspended decks.
I find the bass notes to be tighter and less bloomy than with rubber or acrylic mats.
Looking forward to your future impressions as you get more ears on time.

Apply lube to the platter bearing. Should get better speed stability. I had used a tweak earlier with lithium grease to get better results. I expect this to so something similar if not better.

Total coincidence. I was just calling it space lube because Jason did https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sch...bable-start-up.701900/page-3842#post-15517928, desk mat was already there because space stuff is cool yo.

Nice review of the SOL on Analog Planet. Michael Fremer talks about the difficulty of using all of the adjustability by a beginner, but lauds the ability to adjust everything with the right tools, praises the design with understanding about the limits of designing a low cost table, and likes the potential of the table (especially with some tweeks). Overall, he thinks its a great value and only wishes his table didn't run slow.

Confirmed that Pro-Ject Speed Box DS works with the Sol but provides very little clearance (depending on the cartridge) if installed under the platter.

Looks good! Looks like the Pro-Ject Speed Box is a bit taller than the Music Hall CC 2.0, which is actually shorter than the plinth's height. There's over an inch of clearance the way I've got things set up.

It looks like the Sol has become an instant classic. Checking on hifishark, only 2 have been sold by users in 2020 and 2021. When an audio product is purchased and kept, that's a sign of a great product in my book.
