My favorite brewpub in LA, The Stalking Horse on Pico, has reopened for take out including beer and just picked up their Stay Gold Belgian-style golden strong ale.

Hopefully in a week or so they’ll their their barleywine also available in 32oz crowlers - yum!

Try to support your local brewpub

Good stuff, and I'm pretty sure it has indeed found my spleen (as well as my liver).

Date Shake. Two pints Vanilla Hagen Dazs, 16 ounces pitted dates. 120 seconds in the Blendtec. It will blend.

Apart from a vintage Port we're keeping for an anniversary, this is the last of the 'cellar'. Post-isolation re-stock now required.

    Irish Coffee.

    1-1/2 oz Irish whiskey
6 oz strong drip coffee, hot (or 2 oz espresso + 4 oz hot water)
An ounce or two of heavy whipping cream, cold
Sweetness to taste (for me, that means 1/2 oz simple syrup + one packet of Equal)
    1. Combine whiskey, coffee, and sweetener in a mug. Stir.
    2. Shake the heavy whipping cream for a few seconds to thicken it a little, then float it on top of the coffee by slowly pouring it over the bowl of an inverted spoon.
    3. Photograph and enjoy.

Just finished my last cup of it. Local Total Wine is getting some in stock next month, it normally goes out quick.

Not the best bourbon that I drink, but it is quite good for the price. I wish it was a little smoother. Quality plus price is why this sells out quick.

It really is a great bourbon for the price, one that's probably the most affordable option for an entry-level, neat sipping bourbon. People are figuring this out, unfortunately, and as bourbon's getting trendier, its prices have been shooting up. I used to get it in NJ for less than $25 a 750 ml bottle; now it's seldom available for under $30-35. In NYC, where hipsters learned that its distillery is also the home of Pappy van Winkle, you can seldom get it for under $45 now (see the left-hand branches on this chart's distillery tree):

I would blame the alcohol laws in each state. FL since we aren't an ABC state it can be set by the local retail store. Lucky I live near a Total Wine which is about 10-15 minutes away from my apartment. They sell based on the MSRP on anything. When they get them in stock you have to go to customer service and ask for it, since they sell out kind of quickly. I can spend more on good bourbon so I normally get the 750 ML (normally I spend up to $50ish for a bottle at 750 ML). Here's the prices that are set locally by me:

Nice, that's a good price. And, yes, I agree entirely, state alcohol laws count whole bunch, as do local taxes. I'm also with you about prioritizing - I get the Buffalo Trace for affordable sipping and then spend more coin on the good stuff. (I shouldn't admit this but Benchmark 8 is just about tolerable for cocktails like manhattans, and it can be had for less than $10. It's also from the Buffalo Trace distillery. Don't tell the hipsters).

As someone who lived in Brooklyn the hipsters are partly ruing what is NY for me.

If I see the 750 ML next month (that's what Total Wine is expecting to get some in), I'll pick up a bottle. I'll get the other good stuff to be honest.

Sorry for the second post, but I feel sorry for you guys who live in ABC states. 21th Amendment allows each state to control their Alcohol sales, but I really believe Dry/Moist Counties in 2020 is stupid IMO (hell in FL we still have two Dry Counties in middle of no-where). Also, I do believe ABC boards cause more harm than good for smaller distilleries.

This video will be bias a bit, but it is a good one that I show with regards to this subject and it relates to @yotacowboy.

Also, just because you live in a non-ABC state doesn't mean you are avoiding stupid alcohol laws.

Timo Mayer Remstal Pinot. My favourite Australian winemaker going to work on on some German juice. Any wine nerds out there, check out Mayer wines if you can. He's most famous for pinot, coming from the Yarra Valley. But one of the hidden gems of Australian wine is Yarra Cabernet (most famously from Mount Mary and Yarra Yering). More subtle and elegant than Coonawarra or Margaret River, but amazing when good. The Mayer cabernet is possibly my favourite wine. He's got a Merlot this viate too that is sublime.
