What do you have under those subs, meaning are you isolating those from the table?

Sorbothane under subs and mains optimized for load. I keep it in the middle of the rating so for example if a piece of sorbothane is rated between 20 and 30kg i keep the load at 25kg. The legs of the stands are filled with sand and they weigh a ton and the top and bottom are made of plywood. I'm glad i put heavy duty coasters under them.

. I do not have experience with Sorbothane, but I have been using Popysound Sylo foam underneath my speakers and subs. Works very well too elimate resonances.

Interesting never heard of those. Same principle and they’ve done the work for you, no need to dig through datasheets.

Procella uses those under their subs.

    2019 SBAF FOTM sheeple set-up
Pi2AES spdif -> Bifrost 2 -> OG Saga (no tube) -> single Aegir. Though recently I've also been using a cheap Aliexpress Class T amp for watching videos.

These were cheat DIY speakers: I bought the drivers off Parts Express then handed them off to a local custom speaker builder. The aim was originally to try to copy big vintage JBLs, but the costs of building big cabinets in Singapore was prohibitive (upwards of 1000 SGD per cabinet), so I decided to try for open baffle instead. I did use Troel's OBL-15 as some sort of reference, but the resemblance is probably cosmetic only.

The drivers are modified Morel CAT 378 horn-loaded soft domes, B&C 10CL51 10" midrange woofers and Eminence Beta 15" woofers. The tweeters had to be modded to increase their sensitivity because I hadn't accounted for baffle loss at first. Heated bitumen pads were also applied to the midranger basket to reduce ringing. Also the 15" woofers were wired in reverse phase for a more even response.

I was also aiming for a budget project but the crossover destroyed those objectives, because the speaker builder insisted on using money parts to build the crossover, and due to various circumstances at the time, I couldn't really argue.

Technically it's a 2.5-way than a 3-way speaker, since there was only a coil on the midrange to cross with the tweeter, while its low-end was allowed to roll off naturally. The 15" woofer was crossed at about 100-120 Hz. I would have liked to try a true 3-way speaker with a higher crossover point for the woofer, but that would have meant even higher costs overall.

Sound-wise, it was much better than I had hoped. Mind you, 1) I had only been using crappy Presonus Eris E8s previously, and 2) I was half-expecting these to sound like crap because it wasn't using any known build and the builder had not built a 3-way OB speaker before. To me, the sound is very cohesive, and seems to have low distortion. In the beginning, there were times that I played it loud without realising until my ears actually started to ache; nowadays, I am a lot more careful with the volume knob. Which is important since they're also very sensitive: with older, less compressed music, they get loud at 12 o'clock on the Saga + Aegir. They've also made me notice compression in modern music a lot more; these days, if I happen to listen to older albums first, I tend to find modern albums on the flat and dull side.

Bass is definitely not "slow" or bloated, if anything, I understand what purrin means now when he says the bass in shopping mall speakers sound like farts. They don't quite have the magical mids of the hd6xx, but it's pretty smooth and still quite engaging to me. Treble is also quite natural to my ears, sibilants are clearly present but they don't take over the entire track. There is roll-off, probably at around 14 kHz, but not a big issue to me. They're probably not the last word in resolution, and not making full use of the BF2 in that regard, but that was to be expected given that I was using cheapish drivers. Overall, they're a lot of fun to listen to. For the past year that I've had these, I think I've spent less than 10 hours with my hd6xx.

Haha, that would be ironic as I might not be able to listen to them in a month's time, cos I'll be going overseas for a Master's program.

Troels Gravesen has mentioned a few times that it's better to have $$$$ xover + $ drivers than to have $ xover + $$$$ drivers

Yeah, and unfortunately for my budget, my speaker builder subscribed to that school of thought as well. Sound-wise, I'm not complaining just yet

My dream listening place would be in a house near the sea. After listening to some music I am going to the beach and just sit there and enjoy it. At least I have a dream.

Nice setups and cool rooms with personality.

The good news - got new tops for my subs.
The bad news - the amp for my subs seems to be dying.
The good news - the new tops go down to lower thirties with gusto.

They used to be made by Square Audio, a local company here. The original design was called Square One, you can read some fluff here. Now the manufacturer became Reflector Audio for whom I used to work. They had some leftover materials so they could make me a pair of these. The design is very similar to the OG Square One, but the tweeter, amps plates and horns are different.

Each of the boxes has a FaitalPRO HF1440 tweeter in an 18sound horn crossed over at 1kHz to 4x ScanSpeak 15WU midwoofers. The amp pack is a Hypex FA253 and all filtering is done via DSP. This makes the design point-source, controlled directivity and very much impulse-coherent as drivers are time aligned.

I AB'ed these against my old Neumann KH310 and they decimated them. So I sold the Neumanns and upgraded.

Those Hypex nCore plate amps are no joke. Plenty of power and no sign of class D nasties. I would gladly pit them against whatever ATC or Quested puts in their speakers. Not to mention that the AD/DA section super transparent. Swapped out the ADI-2 Pro for Yggdrasil and the difference was immediately audible. That Bruno fellow knows his stuff.

I guess this is how an active speaker with near SOTA drivers and top dog amplification sounds.
