    SOLD to @E_Schaaf
    Please close @shipsupt

    (Edit: Please read entire thread.)

Recently acquired from here. I believe these are 3rd version / made in Ireland w black screen. I purchased new genuine pads and HD650 cable. Will include the aftermarket pads and stock cable.

Stock I found them a little fatiguing, and I read folks find this a symptom of the spider cage reflections which I found true for me too. Then I did the 6XXKISS mod which made them too bass light (not unexpected - was curious). Removed vent foam and preferred (increase bass and transients), but still not enough bass/warmth. Dynamat (second skin audio damplifier) needs to be removed to get back more bass, or adding some bass enhancement mod?

Friends and Contributors only. $165shipped and Paypal fees covered.

Can provide pics if needed. ... Drop price weekly until gone.

    Edit: NOW $150shipped
Edit: NOW includes balanced cable shown here.
Edit: NOW $135shipped. See my last post for details.

@Biodegraded offered me a possible fix: FREE HD6XX Yaxi hybrid pads to try. Thanks Geoff! If I dont like the new pads Ill re-up the listing. Yaxi pads would then go back to Geoff, or if he prefers I will include (also free) with the HD580.

Back up for sale. Now also ships with: Yaxi pads, and my leftover second skin audio sample pack which includes enough “dynamat” to do KISS mods.

Pardon my ignorance. Are these mods reversible? I've never found stock 6xx models to be fatiguing, I'd tend to blame mods for fatigue ;)

    @Mr.Sneis

I don't think it strange at all. Having owned all of 580, 600, and 650, 600 was definitely more fatiguing than 650 to my ears (specifically with brand new pads). While it wasn't my case, 580 could be claimed similarly by someone else. It's a matter of reference frame I believe.

Dynamat is removable though time consuming. Small disc of foam can be reapplied but without the spider cage it will need to be held in place with an adhesive. The spider cage itself possibly adds its own character (ie reflections) so not completely stock.

For the fatigue, without much investigation I attributed it to the spider cage reflections as is briefly noted in the 6XX compendium. After that I found them a little boring in the bass (not enough texture or depth). So, I thought I’d try dynamat but it made the headphone bass light. After that - I realized that the aftermarket pads may not actually sound and measure the same as stock as described by previous seller. So, I bought genuine pads which I learned are obviously physically different than the aftermarkets and they did add more warmth and detail but not enough.

    Aftermarkets on right:

However, there is a good chance the fatigue was due to possibly listening at higher than normal volumes. I found the 580 kinda boring like the 95X and found myself turning them up to make things interesting. 95X didnt stay long as well.

Second Skin damplifier removed and bass sounds adequate again. (Dynamat) took about a minute per side to remove.

Appreciating how violins and trumpets sound smooth and detailed. Great jack of all trades type sound but I still dont find that engaging. Not as boring as 95X for sure though - that phone could rock me to sleep.

Im going to hold onto these until Grado Hemp arrive for comparison review.

You need to acoustically damp the internal enclosure, not vibrationalyy damp the internal enclosure. There’s tons of threads on this.

For buyers, doesn’t sound like anything was permanently changed or damaged and you could finish the mods. Making mistakes is part of the modding process, either by the previous owner or by you. So don’t worry about that.

Thanks for the advice @rhythmdevils . I used acoustic foam (came with second skin sampler) on the back side but not over magnet - held in place with micropore tape. And sealed all the vents (ear side) with felt stickers. I may try a layer of foam on ear side as well later. Sounds like more bass and a little more defined highs (or maybe just quieter in relation). Sounds good!

Edit: bass is a tiny bit boomy? so going to put foam disc back on top of magnet hole held with micropore tape.

Could not get to my liking. Prefer 4XX.

Back to stock minus spider cage and driver vent foam. Sold as-is (bass-lite). Surplus modding materials are off the table as Id like to use on a 6XX. Weekly price reduction begins now.

    $150shipped

Quick question - do the drivers have the gold-colored coil or red? You should be able to tell by looking at the driver from the earside.

They should look like either early or mid despite the fact they're 580s and not 600s

And I just noticed a small tear in one of the black screens. Likely from a fingernail when putting pads back on.

Shit f**k me. I read 800 when reading the thread title. Disregard everything I said unless it gave you new ideas. I know jack shit about modding the hd650 except conjecture. My apologies good luck with the sale.

I bought @Carlos CPA HD6XX. It includes a balanced cable which I cannot use. I said he could keep it but then he said I could have the cable anyway to help sell the HD580. Thank you Carlos and thank you SBAF.
