My sister says it's not a martini unless it's made with gin. I disagree.

    Just picked this bottle up.

    Pretty nice.
I am buying the same amount I bought last year, but I drink a lot less now, so I just have so many bottles piling up. Got to stop going to the store...
That building in the back is also a bottle, shaped like new Hampshire state capital

You too young to be getting old buddy. I do feel like this is the natural progression for any spirits drinker though. Soon enough you'll have 30 open bottles in your bar.

Boulevardier. Which I have mixed feelings about, since it's what I used to drink when I went out with my friends after work, and it sucks that I haven't been able to see them for six months. But on the other hand, I have better ingredients here, so it's more delicious when I make it myself.

Was at total wine, looking at Japanese whiskey, when a worker told me I should try this, and gave me a sample. So good. A bit pricey, but not crazy crazy. So good though. More like a Japanese whiskey than a scotch I would say. Kinda other stuff too, very interesting.

Been drinking a lot more Rum than scotch lately and some of these are just as complex as the best single malts I've had! Tonight's offering is A Port Mourant from the French Rum festival.

Ventured out and let someone else mix drinks for a change.

In the foreground is my Zihuatenejo (mezcal, vermouth, citrus, rosemary) and in the back is Mrs. Fastfwd's Original Norman Rockwell (gin, Aperol, St. Germain, cucumber, raspberries).

Went back, ordered a Stagg Jr. Old-Fashioned. Not enough sugar, but their ice game is strong.

Someone gave me a bottle of rye from NY state that, to be nice, I'll describe as unpleasant. I nearly poured it down the drain but remembered, just in time, that I might be able to resurrect it as a Rock and Rye.

No horehound but I had the other ingredients.

Alas, as a glass of Rock and Rye it's not unpleasant but I couldn't really say it had been redeemed. So, I mixed up some bitters and simple syrup and now have a kind of rock'n'rye old fashioned:

Not bad now, I might even call it pleasant. Happy thanksgiving!

Tonight I'm sampling a pretty special booze. The movie director Steven Soderbergh discovered it while shooting his Che Guevara biopic in Bolivia. He rebranded it and brought it to the states.... it's been on my radar for a while and tonight I'm finally tasting.

I gotta say, I quite like it... it's really floral and sweet without being syrupy. After taste is a little bit of a downer though... kind of bitter.

I'm not usually a rum drinker, I get it for recipes. But I found this on the endcap at Total Wine and it's awesome for sipping.

Nooooooooo anyone but Maison Ferrand, they are a travesty to the rum industry as a whole. What they do with their Plantation bottlings and their political power across the Caribbean is cultural appropriation at its finest.

From last night: a Boulevardier, thrown together in like 15 seconds (20 if you include the time to take the photo). 1.5 oz rye, 1 oz vermouth, 1 oz Campari.

Ice from a regular tray, stirred with my finger, didn't even add a garnish -- but it was delicious anyway. Good ingredients (Whistle Pig 10 Year, Carpano Antica) compensated for lazy technique.
