I've seen this picture online before and thought it was a store display or something... didn't realize it was someone's collection...

As a Stellaris and EC Af owner who saw these things first, my immediate reaction to this picture was still WOW HOLY CHEESEBALLS BATMAN.... seriously... how much more stuff are we going to see before 2020 is over?

Agree with others, this is just crazy. Some might call you a gear hoarder. A better way to put it might be that you are a collecting completist. I have a friend like you in the headphone hobby. He almost never sells anything and when it's obvious that he should sell something, he sweats and moans over it for days and days before finally selling fearing that he's made a bad decision some how.

Completist rarely sell anything ever. And they NEVER sell off a massive part of their collection. I suppose that is why this is so difficult for some of us to get our feeble brains around your massive purge. But hey, good for you for having the discretionary funds to collect this in the first place. I typically have to sell something to make a new purchase, but such is life.

(Even more off topic) I have another friend who collects vintage audio gear. Mostly speakers, old tube amp and stereos from the 50s, 60s and 70s. I used to be into the same stuff. When I got to know him well enough to get an invite to his house (which he rarely offers), I'll never forget walking through the front door. Mouth dropped wide open and I involuntarily mouthed the word "shit." Stacked like dominoes, wall to wall was every Pioneer, Marantz, Sansui receiver that was ever made. Many of the them had a redundant double that was either a parts piece or a backup. Same with the speakers. Every Advent, KLH etc and all the holy grail stuff as well like AR 3a (he had three sets of those) that never ever come up for sale. If you are into this stuff and wonder why you can't find anything for sale on Craigslist or ebay? Because he has it ALL. He has thought about selling some stuff but never does. I actually managed to buy a couple of things from him.

Eventually it hit me though, what a f'ing waste his collecting was. He will never sell, ever. He'll die with it and it will be part of his estate for dispersal at some point. And he only listens to maybe 5% of the collection, period. All of that holy grail gear just sitting there stacked like cordwood in perfect condition. With no one using it. Sad.

Because of this guy, each Christmas I have a give-away here with all the gear that I'm not using or is redundant. It's a small gesture but I guess that it makes me feel a little better.

He’s only keeping the Air Pods. It’s all one really needs.

He has sprinkled some hints throughout.

(You should see the Ogodei Jecklin Float collection someday.)

    That will be...what remains...

I agree its ridiculous, both the sale and the fact I have it all at one time in the first place. I enjoy hearing different stuff and since I can afford it I pick it up, but then it seems to sit there because there's always new stuff to hear. I've been looking around at it & fretting cause I dont like the hassle of selling. Finally with time available due to covid stuff I decided to rip the bandage off and just purge everything at once, get it over with.

Very little of the stuff I'm selling is my Grail level gear. The Stellaris, yes, but thats because I picked up the Stellaris Special (SSpecial) to use with both headphones and my speakers. Im keeping the SSpecial & Woo 5 for tubes, the Questyles for SS, keeping my Mjolnir Megatron and Carbon for eStats. One more headphone sale by end of year (lots of ZMF and Senn stuff) will knock me down to a few keeper headphones, Utopias, HD800, ZMF.

Proceeds of the sales are going into two-channel speaker gear, so I'll have something to feel bad about again in a few years time. ;)

Thanks for sharing this. I love hearing stories about people in the hobby finding reasons to be sensible/pare down.

Awesome! Between the RAAL and the modded HD800 I think I'm not making changes for another decade. This hobby is more fun with one or two awesome setups to enjoy over time. I of course say this and in another few months I'll decide to pull out the Code-X or modded HP1000 or HD600 for some reason.

2 channel has been a hell of a lot more interesting for me; that's where most of my time has been spent for the last few years by far. I'm excited for you to continue that journey some more.
