I like my rainbow streamer as well :)

But it is in a location that lights at night don't matter so much.

Needs wheels and Lego remote control servos. Maybe some appendages too.

Don't make me slap a 3D depth sensor on it + a robot arm and start the path down to skynet.

Yes. I think you need the UPNP server plugin on foobar and configure moOde for UPnP renderer for streams, but yes.

You make an awesome, affordable product in this hobby of 90% margins and insanity. I think it's pretty goddam awesome that you engage the community as much as you do.

90% margins? Where? How do I get in on that? I definitely must be doing something wrong! ;)

Well, to be fair, the manufacturer doesn't see those 90 points. But in most ORFAS cases, they cede 20-40 points to the distributor and 20-40 points to the dealer. They have to bake in 90 points to turn even a modest profit.

    Hi,

In the last two days I am having some problems when I tried to listen Music or any content through the Youtube (Airplay) via PI2AES/Moode. It plays for two seconds only and the sound turn off, when I switch to another music or content it sounds for two seconds and stops. The video is OK.

This is only for the Youtube application. All the other applications running in the AppleTV4k this problem does not occur.

What is strange is that I did not perform any change, and prior to two days ago, it was running properly.

    Any hint?

    Thanks,

    QJA

    Marcos

Is there a description of what pi2aes is for complete f'ing clueless morons? I know none of the computer audio jargon or much computer jargon period. I think I have the idea after a bunch of googling but still not the full picture. Maybe my brain just can’t get past cables and computers right now.

It’s a dedicated sound card for the mini computer that is the RaspberryPi (but with digital outs only, no DAC).

I guess I’m confused about how you interface with it. Is this something I could connect to an iPod and the Tidal app to control? I don’t have access to my music collection right now to plug in a hard drive so I’m Tidal only.

You want to connect Tidal to some audio system. Whether the Pi2AES is relevant at all depends on the inputs of your audio system. Which are?

Pi+Pi2AES is an excellent S/PDIF source. I don't use Tidal, but from other threads here and elsewhere, the Volumio Pi software with a $33/year add-on subscription supports Tidal. Volumio can can controlled remotely using various iPhone or Android apps, or a web browser (I personally don't like Volumio, but AFAIK it's the only Pi software that supports Tidal).

If you want to use the native Tidal app on your iPod to control things, you’ll need to use Airplay, since Tidal doesn’t support remote control on a seperate device (like say Spotify Connect). Otherwise you need to use the TIdal UI that is included with the RPi OS that you install (e.g. Volumio’s Tidal app). Not sure if Volumio supports AirPlay, but I know that RopieeeXL does (that’s another RPi OS that supports the Pi2AES).

Roon works with Tidal, so using the Rpi as a Roon endpoint is another option, if you've got something to act as a Roon server.

Can confirm it does. I Airplay to Volumio when listening to Apple Music stuff and occasionally the audio output of Apple TV for movies. Haven’t used Volumio’s Tidal app so can’t comment on that bit.

I ended up switching to Qobuz but I thought the Tidal UI with Volumio was fine. In general I think the Volumio UI is fine. I ended up liking MoOde better but to use that with Tidal/Qobuz you have to stream from something else. I'm using Audirvana. I just happen to have a second Pi2AES system with Volumio that I intend to use at work, when offices exist again. Meaning I have a spare for a while. Will send a PM.

Something I would add to what others have said, it's basically a tiny computer that you use to output digital audio to a DAC via something other than USB. Because USB sucks. :)

I found the Tidal plug-in for Volumio easier than any other interface for this. There are a variety of free options, none of them worked well for me. Audirvana isn't free but does work well. The Volumio plug-in is still the most reliable that I've tried. Others claim the free options work well for them so YMMV.

This doesn't apply to your current situation but if/when you have access to a digital music collection, the Pi can be used as a music hard drive and you control it as others have said using a web browser, it hosts a site on your local network.
