Fostex X Massdrop TH-X00

Both the cups and the pads are less thick as the th600.
I am very impressed of the amazing wood finish, but the pads I did not consider optimal.

I put the AlphaPads on the THX00 today and it sounded much better to my ears.

 

I wish it was a little tighter, yea.


I'm actually considering buying a second pair this drop so I can use the original one to try and mod (removable cable, different headband, etc.)

I ended up buying one. My god I didn't need this. But I really like the sound of these, and to be honest I don't really want to spend more money on anything upmarket.

Perhaps I'll use the original set to try for a detachable cable mod, or a gift, or some other experimentation.

hi ok really need to know how are these driven just from like straight of an iphone or something because if i use them am probably gonna use them on the go?

 

Easy to drive but not ideal for on the go because of the 10' cable.

 

For on the go,
what you do is "braid the cable"

 

I'd think it too heavy for that but opinions may vary.

 

Well, if you ever need to rapel down a burning building you just undo the braid. Turns out th-x00 is audiophile and prepper approved.

 

If Ur good with a soldering iron,
then you have more options,
like snipping the wire a few inches away from headphones and attaching mini xlr or other small type connectors...

Or you can have someone do it for you...

 

I'm still waiting on folks to take the X00 "tweaks" and apply them the the 900.

I found the X00 to be enjoyable / fun, but still a little too artificial in the top end for me. Tough for me to say "awesome buy at X amount of $"

The second drop just closed again... selling 1,806 TH-X00 headphones (out of a limit of 1,950). From what Will said earlier, this second production run will actually total 2,000 units.

I have ordered from Massdrop.com before (with great results), so 15 minutes after this drop closed my credit card was charged. Thus Massdrop collects the revenue up front, paying in advance for the production run, with delivery approximately 3 months away.

What does this mean?!?! I wonder how it compares to the TH-X00, in price and sound.

Removable cables are nice, though.

 

It's obvious they want to capitalize on the success of the TH-X00...

Fostex are doing exactly the same thing that Grado did with the PS500 after the success of the HF-2.

 

Glad I didn't bite on the X00 now.
